2.0 out of 5 stars Real Review, Please Read All of It !!! June 28, 2012

The good: Gameplay is excellent. Customizing sounds like fun and upgrades are neat. Very well presented upfront. I WANT TO LOVE this app, I really do; but, I can't...

Upgrades cost an insane amount of coins. You earn 5000 coins for a win, 150 coins for per race, at least on the lower levels, which means you CANNOT upgrade much unless you buy coins with real money (or) download crapware. Even the most basic upgrades are outrageous meaning you can't get past the first difficulty level without compromising your wallet and/or your phone.

For example, top of the line body runs a whopping 500,000 coins.

Bottom line... STOP THIS INSANITY! Just charge me a fee for the app up-front and LET ME PLAY. I'd gladly pay up to $4.99 **IF** you then let me freely unlock ALL of the upgrades as I beat the races without extra charges. More coins per win, less coins to upgrade, or even an upgrade per win.

But don't start off by charging me to remove ads, then charge me more to play, then keep popping up more requests to purchase additional, souped-up cars at $1.99 per car.

Pay to remove ads, pay to play, and then get spammed. Talk about greedy...

Sorry guys... I want to love this app, I really do. But I just can't.

2 stars - and that's only because I loved RC slot car racing and customizing them... AND from a racing perspective, this app is spot on. I'll gladly change the review to 5 stars if the other items are addressed.

3.0 out of 5 stars IAP Racing June 28, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app is all the fun of slot car racing, without having to mess around with those plastic tracks that never seem to fit together right. The game comes with 18 tracks, you can make your own, and you can download others from the community. You can upgrade your slot car with new tires, motor, frame or body.

Control is pretty simple, just slide your finger along the throttle to adjust your speed. It's not quite as realistic as a pistol-grip, but a bit easier to fine tune. Unfortunately, the controls are rather badly broken. Many times per track, the car would just stop and the throttle slider would drop to zero as if I'd taken my finger off the screen. I ended up losing several races because of this.

This game has In-App Purchasing. Upgrading your virtual toy car requires spending coins, 665,000 if you want to fully trick out your ride. At 3,100 points maximum per race, that would require coming in first 215 times! It doesn't tell you how much it costs to buy those points until you actually try to purchase them.

The second time I started the app, a popup window tried to sell me a fully tricked out vehicle, the Amazing Capone. You can only get this vehicle if you spend real money, you can't obtain it through playing the game. It doesn't say how much this car will cost (I have IAP disabled, so it won't tell me).

I like that the app has a track editor. You can create your own racing masterpiece, then upload it for others to play. Some of the tracks available from the community look absolutely insane, including one where you end up racing way up in the sky. This is probably the best part of the game.

This could be a 5 star app, but I'm docking 1 star for In-App Purchasing, another for pushing an IAP-only vehicle whenever I start the game, and a third for broken controls, and I'm awarding an extra star for the track editor and ability to download other people's track designs, for a total of 3 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars I want to love it, but can't! June 28, 2012
By Adam
I downloaded this app probably a year ago. Gameplay is overall really fun, and very simple. Simply slide a lever up or down to control your speed.

The MAIN problem with this app isn't IAP although that's another story altogether. Its the fact that it sort of forces you into if you want anything past a single upgrade for each category. As mentioned in other reviews, you can't possibly get enough coin to get even a second upgrade after a round of initial upgrades, let alone anything above that.

Even that wouldn't be so bad, but the problem lies in the fact that you cant earn money from a race after you have already came in first place. So any repeat races on any particular track will not yield you any coin, unless you 'beat your own record' which means after a certain point, you will not earn any coin for any race no matter how hard you try. This is the point where you either stop playing, or pay for upgrades. I chose the former.

As far as gameplay, I only found 2 issues that really are problematic and need to be resolved as it takes away from the enjoyment. The first is that on certain tracks, you cannot win unless you are in a certain lane and/or certain opponents are selected (randomly.) I believe its the 2nd track which is like this. I've played it many many times and the end result is the same, unless you're in the outside lane and only specific cars race against you, you won't win.

The second is loops. After every loop it seems to give your car a massive speed boost. This would be fine, however certain tracks containing loops have a tight turn immediately after the loop. No matter what you do, in my case I release the throttle altogether, you are forced into the speed boost and crash on the turn.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING! Do NOT Install! June 28, 2012
This program has one purpose. To mine data. A Data-miner needs access to all of your accounts. That is why it requires the permission, access all accounts. WARNING! There is no other "valid" reason that a game would require this access.
