I ordered this vest for my photo gear, because it keeps lenses and filters and accessories close at hand better than lugging a camera bag when you're on the move quickly. You would think it would be perfect, and it would be. Except that the one I received, (a "Hummer" brand with a dorky looking silhouette of a Hummvee sewn into it) was made from khaki nylon. And every seam in the vest is fraying, shedding profuse amounts of fine nylon cruft all over the place. Nylon thread that works its way into your lenses and camera body.

Manufacture quality is totally unacceptable for photo work. Maybe it's great for weekend warriors who want to imagine they drive Hummers, but basically junk for anyone who cares for their gear.

I own three other vests and this is the best for hot and humid weather. The picture does not reveal how big the two front zippered pockets are that are located behind and above the large balloon pockets, nor does it show the two large zippered pockets inside the vest and the big cargo pocket in the rear. These are more than enough for various accessories, filters, extenders, cleaning stuff, batteries, cell phone, cables, glasses, flash light, etc. I carry my lenses on a Think Tank belt on my waist. This vest is a real bargain. The quick dry nylon is light weight but strong.

The Campco Combat Photo Vest that I ordered met my expectations in every way. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a vest of this type regardless of whether they are a photographer or not. The vest has more than enough pockets for anything you might want to carry.

Got two of these from a different vendor for my wife and me to use as photo vests. Lots of nice pockets, but the material frays at all the seams and fuzzes up. A major irritant for photo purposes. Also, one of the inside pocket zippers froze in the locked position after one day. Big problem as that pocket had our passports in it. Ended up splitting the zipper and expected to see that it was jammed with material/threads. It wasn't, it was just frozen in the closed position. No teeth seemed to be broken or misaligned. Overall I like the design with lots of pockets, but the material makes it unsuitable for photo use in my view. I'll write the zipper issue off as a weird failure, but the material fraying is a show stopper for me.

With the restriction on bags/backpack at recent airshows this is a very good option. Will carry extra batteries and cards for the digital and still leave room for multiple rolls of 35mm film. Lower front pockets (inside and outside) will fit a 200-300mm range zoom with ease. Rear pocket will hold 350,400mm fixed length lens or a rolled poncho. Good weight distribution, much better then carrying a heavy bag on one shoulder.

My kids & grandmoppets gave me the vest for Christmas. I like it, and will never get rid of it, due to who gave it to me. It seems well-made, but the raw edges do ravel. A minor inconvenience, easily taken care of. It does look nice, and has enough room in the XXL to wear it over my down parka when I photograph winter sports. The fabric appears a bit light, but further use will show if it is durable.

I photograph wildlife, aircraft, sports, family and racing cars. I find my "essential" equipment includes: Camera, 18-55 mm "pit" lens, the "Iron Duke", my 70-210mm lens, purchased years ago and still extremely sharp and adequate for 90% of my car/aircraft/critter photos; a flash unit, spare batteries, extra memory cards, 2 bottles of water, a couple of protein bars, lens cleaning equipment, sunglasses, a poncho and a filter or three.

But! For my uses, the fishing vest my wife gave to me at least 20 years ago is still much better. The large, lower pockets are above the belt line, just right for larger lenses, and they don't get crunched between my body and guardrail or other hard object I am leaning over. The upper breast pockets are large enough for my "pit" lens in one, and flash and light modifier in the other.

The bottom pockets on the Humvee vest, and those on a Domke vest I observed last week at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, as well as many other vests I have looked at are too low...below belt level. On the Humvee, the upper breast pockets are too small for lenses or flash units. But, it will make a great birding vest, methinks.

Just my impressions after using the vest for awhile, but it may be just perfect for your needs. From the photos, my remarks re: pocket size may equally apply to the Humvee Travel Vest, too.

Love the vest. Size runs larger than I'd expect, so I took the advice to order a size smaller than usual. Normally, I'd order an "XL", but opted for an "L". Even the Large is roomy for me. The vest is comfortable, versatile and has plenty of pockets arranged in various sizes and in useful places. Excellent for photographic use.
