2.0 out of 5 stars Insult to the Spanish, November 17, 2008
By
This review is from: ONE HUNDERED YEARS OF SOLITUDE (Paperback)
If this guy is suppose to be the second greatest Spanish writer behind Cervantes than it is either an insult or there aren't very many Spanish author. Nobel Prize? Sick! Basically the book tends to stereotype Hispanics and this one brings out what is the worst in that stereotyping, whoring, superstition, intermarrying. Plus you will most likely go nuts just trying to keep the characters straight seeing how they all share some form of the same name for 5 or 6 generations. Unless you like this stuff, SKIP IT!

So, then why did I give it two stars? For the fantasy basis of the story. Those parts and the parts about war being totally meaningless in the end, are the only good points of the book.
