5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive ceiling fan!
I've had this ceiling fan in my living room for 2 years now and felt compelled to write.

Fan is extremely quiet. The low setting spins slowly so you don't hear the "whirring" like the cheaper models but the 60" blade span moves the air nicely. If you crank this up to high you will definitely create a windchill.

We've kept this fan on 24 hrs a day...

I purchased a Grand Lodge fan from Lowes circa 2003-ish.

In December, 2007, the fan's remote receiver (which controls the fan's speed, direction, and the light kit's on/off and dimmer functions) began to malfunction. It would control the fan, but it would not turn off the light. Since I like to sleep with the fan on, I had to unscrew the bulbs to turn off the light but leave the fan running, and screw them back in if I wanted the light.

I called Hunter's customer service line after the holidays, and ordered a replacement receiver. (This is the circular gizmo that fits inside the housing just above the light kit, part # 85112-04 for my fan.) Normally $40, they gave me a "first time caller" discount of $20, and shipped it FedEx ground. I had it in about a week.

Swappng the receiver is pretty easy; remove the glass globe, the two bulbs, three screws to remove the light kit housing, then slide out the receiver, and unsnap a wiring harness. Installation is the reverse of removal. Took about 15 minutes.

This restored my fan to full functionality...for a total of four days. That afternoon, I tried to turn on the fan--no joy. As I selected different speeds, I could hear the relays clicking inside the fan, but the motor wouldn't start. I tried the "reverse" button, and the fan came on in reverse. I toggled the "reverse" button again, and the motor shut off. So, now, the three reverse speeds work, but the three forward speeds do not.

Also, the light control has become intermittent. If I turn the fan off at the wall switch (i.e., kill all power to the fan), then turn the switch back on, the light comes on, and the remote will then control the light off/on/dimmer function. If I leave the light on for some length of time, then try to turn it off with the remote, it won't respond, and again I have to power cycle it at the wall switch.

(And no, this is not a remote problem or a low battery problem. I have a similar fan in another room, and the fan responds the same way to both remotes. It's clearly a faulty receiver at the fan.)

I called Hunter to ask for yet another remote receiver. They said they'd ship one to me for free this time. That's great, except that today, February 3, 2008, I got a letter in the mail saying the part is backordered and the expected ship date is April 8, 2008.

Great fan...when it works. Friendly customer service...except that they don't have any working parts they can ship me. And unfortunately, all fan control goes through this box; there's no pull chain control to bypass the remote or any easy way to rewire the fan to bypass the problem.

Stupid fan...

We've kept this fan on 24 hrs a day everyday for last 2 years and am impressed with it's quality, styling and air movement. We have high ceilings so in the winter we click the remote to spin blades in opposite direction to draw the heat down off the ceiling into the living area. Again, the low setting is perfect for this as there's just enough airflow to move the air but not create windchill effect.

The remote works well. We used velcro to attach it to the wall like a regular switch and use it to turn the light on and off, fan speed and blade direction.

I've installed about 10 ceiling fans of various quality in a few different houses I've owned. I'm not a clever handyman but installed this ceiling fan myself in about 1 hour. Since the ceiling fan is such a visible item in the room, we've discovered that upgrading to a "nice" fan such as this is well worth the return on investment when you sell house.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fan Turns Itself Off & On, June 12, 2008

I rate the Hunter Lodge ceiling fan with remote control inferior in design, value and quality. After having paid a licensed electrician to install it, I began having problems with it almost immediately. The fan is beautiful, and works effectively when you want it to, but the trouble is, the remote triggers the fan and light to come on by themselves, sometimes together, sometimes independently of each other. You don't necessarily want to come home and find out the fan has been running all day when you're out of the house, or all weekend when you're out of town. And you particularly don't want the light to come on when you're trying to get a little shut eye, at 2:00 am. I didn't do my research on this product before purchase because Hunter fans have always been superior products. Guess there's a first time for everything. I have since found numerous complaints about this product, online. So now I have to either live with the issues, or contact Hunter for replacement parts, which is a hassle, and will cost me additional money to have installed. Gah!

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome large room fan!, August 10, 2007
This review is from: HUNTER 23682 60" Grand Lodge Ceiling Fan New Bronze W/ Light & 5 Rev Dk Cherry/Med Oak Blades
I have 5 ceiling fans and this is the best one! It is super quiet and really moves a lot of air with no wobbles. Install instructions were clear and easy. Fan took about 30 minutes to install. The remote is a nice bonus!

Do not buy a hunter fan with remote. I am on my 3rd control unit and am giving up. Check the internet and you will see tons of the same complaint. Worst was this year they told me it was my home wiring(power surges) that were causing the problem... fan needs a recall !!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poltergiest fan, December 7, 2008
This review is from: HUNTER 23682 60" Grand Lodge Ceiling Fan New Bronze W/ Light & 5 Rev Dk Cherry/Med Oak Blades
We bought this fan and had no problems after I installed it...for about 2 weeks. Then the fan and light began turning on or off by themselves infrequently...not a huge problem. Now in about month 7 of this fan being installed in our living room, the fan/light turns on or off by itself about 30 or 40 times daily. That is a big problem, especially when you buy this thing for energy efficiency only to discover that you've wasted your money because the thing turns on overnight and stays on. Awesome. Run at a high speed away from this fan, no matter how good the deal is. Unless you like to be annoyed.

1.0 out of 5 stars The parts that work are good, July 29, 2008
This review is from: HUNTER 23682 60" Grand Lodge Ceiling Fan New Bronze W/ Light & 5 Rev Dk Cherry/Med Oak Blades
Like a previous reviewer, I purchased the fan from Lowes in 2005. After about a year the remote receiver went out and the light could no longer be dimmed or turned off. Hunter, however did not offer me any discount on a replacement part. Given that this seems to be an inherent issue with their fans, they should step up and address it. Since it appears that their replacement units share the same fault as the original. I'm not planning to replace the part. I may see if I can convert the light to work off a separate wall switch or replace the whole fan with another brand.

My recommendation is that unless and until they acknowledge and correct this issue, I would stay away from this and similar products.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, May 26, 2011
This review is from: HUNTER 23682 60" Grand Lodge Ceiling Fan New Bronze W/ Light & 5 Rev Dk Cherry/Med Oak Blades
We bought the fan on 2007 on sale at Lowes. and yes, the remote receiver crapped out after about 3 years of heavy use. But until the day the receiver went, and now every day after (after getting a new one), the fan and light has worked perfectly. In fact, the reason I'm even on this page is because we just redid our bedroom and I want another one just like it for upstairs.

Figured I would chime on and let everyone now that my brand new fan turns on too.. I checked all the wiring and changed the frequency on the remote. I was just sitting here and with the remote 10 feet listened to the fan turn on. I didn't buy the cheap fan hoping that I would get at least a few months out of it but it looks like this one will find itself back at Lowes this weekend. My concern is this is how my new $400k house will catch on fire due to $200 poorly manufactured Chinese wired fan and short circuits out. I can't wait until more products are actually used by the Chinese so the quality goes up like it did in Japan and Korea.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst Hunter Fan I've ever owned, October 25, 2008

I've been purchasing Hunter fans for years and never had any issues with them until I purchased this one in 2005. After about six months, the light would stay on and not go off (seems to be a common theme). I also removed the lights. This was my first truly remote control fan from Hunter. For others, I've installed aftermarket remotes and on occasion stray frequencies (radar detectors or garage door openers?) would turn on my son's bedroom light or our office light. Irritating, but not the end of the world.

From everyone else's negative comments, including replacements parts; I hope I can find a manual pull chain system for it. I just didn't feel like fixing the problem till now. Hunter makes excellent fans, but not this one.
