I purchased the Plantronics headset with noise reducing microphone for use in my home office. I work for a midwestern retail company, taking incoming store calls. One of the most important qualifications for my job is "no background noise". I have a small dog who alerts me of neighborhood activity, so I was concerned about barking coming through the microphone. A few days ago I was in a meeting using the headset and I forgot to close my office door. Of course the dog barked an alert. I closed the office door and appologized for the noise. No one in the meeting heard the dog! I am very impressed with the noise reduction quality! Additionally, the unit is comfortable for a full day at work. I like the movement options of the microphone so I can get it just right. I have no problem with incoming sound. The connection is clear and crisp. As an aside, I use the Plantronics headset with the Plantronics M22 amplifier and the most inexpensive phone I could find. This set up seems to work great for my application and I am very pleased with the purchase.

Review for: Plantronics EncorePro Telephone Headset (HW301N binaural and HW291N Monaural)

OVERVIEW:
-----------

Here below we compare and discuss the 2 highest-end (sound quality especially) Plantronics wired headsets with noise reduction, SupraPlus vs. EncorePro. Let's begin by noting which models are monaural vs. binaural:

SupraPlus HW251N - Monaural (1 earmuff), microphone noise reducing
SupraPlus HW261N - Binaural (2 earmuff), microphone noise reducing

EncorePro HW291N - Monaural (1 earmuff), microphone noise reducing
EncorePro HW301N - Binaural (2 earmuff), microphone noise reducing

The W in the model names stands for WIDEBAND AUDIO for which Plantronics claims improvement in sound clarity, etc., however support says you likely wouldn't detect any difference with or without it with wired headsets. That said, these two headphones are considered to have the BEST SOUND QUALITY OF THE PLANTRONICS LINES WITH NOISE-CANCELING.

The N in the model names stands for NOISE-CANCELING technology which I will refer to here mostly as NOISE REDUCTION, that is the noise that comes to the microphone.

SIMILARITIES:
--------------

(1) NOISE REDUCTION

This is reducing the background noise that comes into the microphone.

Plantronics measures microphone noise reduction between 30%-75% for both headsets, so there is no difference there. After testing, however, I think it is much closer to 30%-40% and Plantronics support agreed.

As I had heard the noise reduction may be higher for one of the two headsets I did a test and if there is a difference I couldn't tell. I was unable to get frequency distribution vs.

This binaural headphone is the best that I have used. Light weight and confortable. Nothing breaks on it after hundreds of hours use. The quick cord disconnect is reliable and secure. One can focus without distraction because both ears are "on the case."

I love this head set. I had a lot of swish sound in my other set, and this one is clear as a bell. It was delivered with in a week. The price was half what it was at the Plantronic site. I am very happy!

I work in a machine shop so I have been looking for a noise canceling headset that would actually cancel out the noise. This headset for the most part does cancel out the noise however when speaking it does sound a little muffled. I also have to have the microphone right up to my mouth for those on the other end to hear me. Also if you have a little head this will slide off. It has a very wide headband.

I work from home and spend 8-10 hours on the phone every day. I wanted a headset that has optimal sound quality.
PROS:
The sound quality is what I was hoping for. I prefer the stereo sound. The noise cancellation works well. I also purchased the amplifier. I found that the volume resolution on the phone (Avaya) was too drastic between levels and the amplifier gives precise volume control.
The adjustable length of the microphone arm is a great feature. It is easy to adjust so it does not pick up your breathing.
CONS:
I am disappointed with the fit. The unit tends to slip forward on my head and I have to constantly readjust them.
The ear pieces swivel to accommodate your anatomy, but I feel they swivel too freely. If they had more rigidity it would help keep the unit on your head.
The same goes for the microphone swivel where it meets the ear piece. If all these adjustment points were more rigid it would be a much better product.
Conclusion:
Overall I am happy with the product and would recommend purchasing. It is well made and durable. I think buying the headset first to see how it works with your phone before purchasing the amplifier is a good idea.

Plantronics didn't recommend it but I bought this headset to use with a Plantronics CT-14 wireless phone and it works perfectly! I wanted a comfortable Binaural headset (2 earphones) for all-day wear and one that reduced background noise. I couldn't be more pleased with this one. Recently I used it to work from our outdoor deck. There was a ringing windchime and barking dogs all around but my clients, when asked, said they couldn't hear anything but my voice so the noise cancellation feature is working fine. Also, the leather-covered ear cups are super comfortable even wearing them all day without a break. Had to get an adapter to match the plug to the phone for an extra $7 and am not using an extra amplifier. Plenty of volume from the phone itself. But this was a great find and a huge improvement over the cheap binaural headphones I'd been using.
