5.0 out of 5 stars Hands Down the Best Small Sized Silica Solution Available!!, September 8, 2010
This review is from: 40 Gram Silica Gel (Misc.)
I have been using these silica containers for well over 7 years now and they are outstanding, simply outstanding. The best thing about these containers is they are reusable. As soon as they get saturated with moisture you simply pop them in the oven and abra-cadabra they are ready to be used again and you can continue to reuse them as many times as you want. There is no limit on the number of times they can be reused. I actually own around 45-50 of these in a bunch of misc sizes. I am an architectural photographer and I keep one in each of my photography cases and lighting cases. I also use them in the storage cabinets that I keep my negatives and prints in as well as in my safe, where I keep my very best negatives. I also use them in the pelican cases that I use to store my hard drives. In other words I have these things all over the place protecting all of my sensitive electronics and photographic materials.

I actually have an electronic device that measures the humidity in the air and I did extensive testing with these containers back when I was first looking into various humidity control solutions and these devices performed flawlessly regardless of where I used them. As long as you use the proper size silica container for the area your looking to dehumidify, you will no longer have anything to worry about in regards to humidity. Just make sure you check the saturation level regularly and you will be good to go.

The bottom line - The bad news is that humidity can really wreak havoc on certain items especially over the long term. The good news is that humidity can be easily controlled with very little effort and very little money. There are actually a lot of options out there for controlling humidity and most of them will do a fairly good job at doing just that. With that being said these silica containers are easily one of the best options on the market and they are very affordable. Again I have been using them for well over 7 years now and I have absolutely zero complaints. They do exactly what they are supposed to do and in all honesty, What more can you really ask for?

5 Stars!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Silica Gel - Good Value, January 16, 2006
This review is from: 40 Gram Silica Gel (Misc.)
This item is a good value and comes packaged in a convienent container. The beads can be reactivated by simply following the manufacturer's instructions and baking in an oven. the 40 gram package is nice sized for small spaces/drawers, however larger spaces may require more than one. Overall, this item is a nice value for those that do not want to buy the silica gel in a bulk package and deal with making your own container(s). I would recommend for anyone keeping tools or other collectables where moisture is not wanted.

4.0 out of 5 stars just what I needed, December 7, 2007
This review is from: 40 Gram Silica Gel (Misc.)
I live at 1600M above sea level and every other week go down to the beach.
This was proving to be too much for my cameras to take.
Moisture and condensation was driving me crazy.... Not any more.
I dropped one of these silica canisters in my camera back pack and no longer worry about moisture inside...
"Foggy optics" was dramatically reduced.

Highly recomended...

5.0 out of 5 stars 40 Gram Silica Gel Canisters, May 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 40 Gram Silica Gel (Misc.)
I purchased a waterproof/fireproof safe to store my valuable documents, however the safe mfg neglected to mention that within a few weeks my items would be hypersaturated from sitting in the safe. After sealing my documents in the safe I opened a few weeks later to notice that all the items were damp and had a dingy smell. I started doing some internet searches and found that many others have had the same issue. I decided to purhcase 2 of these 40 gram silica gel canisters. The items arrived promptly and looked just like the picture a metal canister with a viewing window to see the silica gel inside. I put it in the safe and after a few days the gel had gone from blue to pink. I expected this since one of the pages I read indicated that initally you would have to reactivate the gel often to purge the inital moisture. So I placed canister in oven per the instructions and they turned back to blue. I have only had the gel for a couple weeks but my documents have dried out and I have not noticed the moisture issue. These items are a life saver.

Use the gel in our strong box after we had found moisture in it. I figure the paper had soaked in the humid air or we licked the envelopes to much. anyway, I Checked it after a month of use and the inside was dry but the indicator said I needed to dry out the silica gel by just placing in an oven for a couple of minutes. Well worth it.

Contrary to the picture, what you get is a metal container with the silica gel beads in it. Not this is a complaint, but the picture is a bit misleading with the bag there. Anyways, this does what it's supposed to and the price is right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product - works well..., September 1, 2008
This review is from: 40 Gram Silica Gel (Misc.)
I bought this to place in a small gun safe. I've dried it out several times now in the oven. It's worked perfectly preventing dampness and rust in my gun safe. Would be nice if you could put it in a microwave - but that is not possible, since it has a metal case. A better design would be plastic.
