5.0 out of 5 stars A great wooden toy for babies
I wanted to get some wooden toys for my 3-month old daughter instead of the standard plastic ones, mainly to avoid the whole BPA issue. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on them but did want quality. This toy, while being slightly more expensive than others, is a great investment. ...but my son never seemed interested in it. Unfortunately, this has also been the case with the two other Haba holding toys I bought. I repeatedly attempted to introduce the holding toys between 6 and 18 months to no avail. (A notable exception was the Haba Triangle, which he adored as a teether, rattle and manipulation toy.) I suspect that some day I will carry this...

I wanted to get some wooden toys for my 3-month old daughter instead of the standard plastic ones, mainly to avoid the whole BPA issue. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on them but did want quality. This toy, while being slightly more expensive than others, is a great investment. My daughter clutches the sides and gnaws on the round ring, while the little colorful wooden parts are fun for her to watch. It's her favorite toy (if a 3-month old has favorites). It's exactly as it appears in the picture. The wooden stick in the middle seems sturdy and doesn't appear to have any "give" in it -- I worried it might break easily, but it has withstood my older two playing with it. A great investment!

A fun rattle, the little color "tubes" dangle and are very shakable and fun.

Our 8-month old daughter finally figured out how to rotate the central colored bars and put them in her mouth. She likes this toy, but not as much as Trinello or Kringelring.

When I first received this toy, I was a little disappointed at how small it was, but it is the perfect size for tiny little hands. When we first gave it to her, she would just grab onto it and wave it around, then as she got older, she would hold it with one hand and focus on turning the rainbow beads in the center. She also uses it as a wooden teething ring, and still enjoys banging it around, tambourine-style. Well-made, solid toy that will certainly still be around for a younger sibling.

I bought this toy from a store in a children's museum. It becomes my 6-mons old baby's favorite toy, she holds it even when she's watching her favorite TV program Baby Einstein. She likes to shake it, she likes to chew on it, she likes to play with the middle part too (spin them, touch them). The color pattern is so vivid and please to the eyes that it makes this toy look like a candy. Very unique design and superior quality, I like to hold it and play with it too. ^_^ I'll definitely save it for my second baby and grandkids to come. Oh, did I mention it was a award winning toy!

Our little one liked this rattle when she was teething, and she liked to wave the beads around. We also received as gifts the Moby clutching toy and the Haba rattle with colored "beads" -- that one was probably the best in catching her eye with color and movement and sound, and she liked chomping on that one as well as this one. (Thank you, friends + family, for the generous gifts!) This one got play as a stroller toy clipped to plastic rings too, and that was a good distraction. All in all, Haba toys are fantastic and very nice to have.

My son LOVES this toy. I got it when he was about 3 months and now at 10 months he still plays with it.
When he's teething, he seems to find it very soothing and prefers it to most of his actual teethers.
When in the car, he likes to hold it up and watch the bars move from the car movements, and this lulls him to sleep while he holds it up to look at it.
He also, of course, loves banging it against things, like his crib rails, to make noise. It's small and compact and easy to fit in my back pocket or a small side pocket of the diaper bag.

My son got this when he was 4 months. He's almost 7 months now and still loves it. He holds it with one hand easily and passes it from hand to hand, it makes a nice rattling sound, and he chews on the ring as well as the small colored pieces. People are amazed at how long he's occupied by it. It's easy to pack on-the-go, but it also gets lost easily, so sometimes I attach a pacifier clip (also from HABA) to it. When it gets dirty, I rinse with water, pat dry, and it's ready for him to play with again. The toy is well-made: I haven't had any problems with the lacquer chipping or the wood splintering.

1.0 out of 5 stars it broke!, May 19, 2010

I bought this from another retailer in November. My daughter, now 5 months, didn't really play with it until a month ago. She broke the large ring today--it cracked next to the rod that holds the pegs. The pegs can now come off the rod, thus it's a choking hazard. She didn't play too hard with it either. I'm assuming we got a defective one because Haba toys are normally top quality. I am in the process of returning this toy to the retailer. Buyer beware.

I suspect that some day I will carry this one in my purse to twirl while waiting in line or for the bus. Like all Haba toys I've bought, the construction quality is very high. Wonderful toy company, wonderful design, just this one was not of interest to my son.
