They are well made, brightly colored and I wish we had more.

They are small enough that they pack away easily, but large enough that she doesn't choke on anything.

Great set of starter blocks - can't wait to get more Haba blocks to add to them.

My son loves these blocks, and I wish I had these blocks growing up. They are top quality, but two of the blocks have a small red knob inserted into the top. My dog and my son worked together to remove the knob on one of the blocks, and I later found it in my son's diaper.

I love Haba toys, but although this set is rated for 1-4 year olds, we had to put some of the pieces away as they are just too small for my grandson who loves to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. I'd given them to him for his first birthday, and although he really likes them, some of the blocks are just too small for a one year old. I am going to buy the Fantasy Jigsaw blocks to give him more to play with though and just put away the little parts till he can handle them.

Haba makes really nice, well made toys.

These blocks are gorgeous, but they just aren't that much fun. I know I'm going to get some downvotes for saying that, but it's sadly true. Listen, I wanted to like them too. I spent a fortune getting the Fantasy blocks, the Sevilla set, the Cordoba set, the First Blocks, and another set of Haba. I wanted something made by workers who enjoy first-world wages and working conditions. I wanted something non-toxic, and I wanted something durable from a respected brand. These blocks delivered on all three. Plus, they are just beautiful. Each one is like a neat little treasure. The colors are gorgeous and the different sets look stunning together. They are beautifully made of solid, heavy beech-wood.

BUT

BUT

BUT.....

My daughter never played with them. Not at nine months, or twelve, or fifteen, or eighteen months. Not at two or two-and-a-half. Her cousin, who's almost four now, spends time with us every day for the last two years, and he never played with these either, nor do visiting playdate friends.

It's not that the kids don't like blocks. They play every day with our Wonderworld blocks, our Holz blocks, the Duplo Legos, and my old unit blocks from kindergarten. They just don't play with the Haba blocks, and I think I've figured out why.

Most of this set is decorated cubes and decorative "tower topper" blocks that can't be stacked. There are a couple of arch pieces and columns, but no triangular blocks. For the most part, all you can do is stack up straight towers, not too high, and make pretty color patterns. That's fun, but the kids have much more fun with sets that let them make cantilevered towers and explore proportions with multiple different size blocks.

We now have 3 or 4 sets of them and the kids make wonderfullly creative towns, buildings and towers out of these blocks. They are always the first blocks by kids choose to play with at our house. These will be kept for the kids forever.

My son loves the blocks. The look like no other blocks and he gets a kick out of the block with the bell inside and the clear plastic blocks that look like ice cubes. To my horror, he can put a few of the smaller ones entirely into his mouth so I took them away so he can play with when he's older. Watch out for this if you buy these wonderful blocks.

Gorgeous blocks which look great even after our puppy got ahold of them. However, some of the blocks (the half rounds and the dome shaped ones) are too small for my 17 month old. She put them right in her mouth and the entire block fit right in there (and she is petite!). Also for breastfeeding moms, the dome shaped ones look awfully like breasts so the little ones are really drawn to putting them in their mouths (no kidding). Still, we just put away the domes and the half rounds and still are left with a great assortment of gorgeously colored durable SAFE blocks from a reliable European manufacturer. The best assortment we've seen including beautiful graphics, holographic details, some prismlike blocks, columns, blocks with holes with columns, a block with a bell, an arch and two shaped like mini staircases. Even the 11 year old is helping out with design for the toddler! Just put away the smaller blocks until your child is old enough not to put them in his/her mouth.

I bought these blocks for my niece who is a little over a year old. I was told that she immediately gravitated to these blocks on Christmas day and spent most of her time playing with them. The blocks are whimsical, colorful, different shapes and provide inspiration for a child's growing imagination. I wish I had toys like this when I was a child. Great buy!

We received this set along with the Cordoba and First Blocks for our then almost 1 year old son for Christmas 2009. At a year old, he liked to bang them together, drool on them, and roll them around (we did put a few smaller pieces away until he stopped putting toys in his mouth). 2 years later, he still plays with them daily making fantastical towers, cities, and bridges, and just about anything that pops into his imagination (we have also had car washes, hospitals, roads, space shuttles, and all manner of shapes). They are beautiful blocks with interesting shapes, colors, and designs, and they have held up amazingly well--no chipped paint and no broken pieces despite a lot of abuse. Now my nearly 3 year old son is having to (reluctantly) share his treasures with his 7 month old baby sister who makes a beeline for these pretty blocks whenever they are out.

While they don't have buttons, or recorded letters and numbers, or someone singing nursery rhymes like so many "educational" toys these days, they allow the child to decide how to play with them and manipulate them. Open-ended toys like these are the ones my kids keep coming back to because each time they can do something different. They encourage wonderful imaginative play, and kids don't realize all of the skills they are learning while playing.
