Ours is made very well and we have no complaints about it.

My son enjoyed it enough but never played for more than 2 minutes at a time or a few minutes a day.

I love Haba products as they are so well made, not made in China, and are made with natural dyes.

Really great toy! I thought it was overpriced (but it was a gift) and it took up too much space in our little house...but we LOVE it!!! I've regifted/donated so many plastic ball toy things that we always get as gifts, but this is the one thing I've held on to. My son and his friends have played with it for over 2 years (he's 3 1/2 now) and now our 8 month old baby will play with it for 20 minutes at a time. It's really well made and old-school fun - with no batteries and plastic. If I ever need to buy someone a nice baby gift, I'm going to buy this.

We've had this for 2 years and have NEVER had a ball not make it down the track. Not once. Ours is made very well and we have no complaints about it. It was a great purchase. Our son still plays with it all the time! As he gets older he finds new ways to play with it, like putting 2 or 3 balls on it and holding them back from starting until he gets the # of them all set to go.

My baby has absolutely loved and been fascinated by this toy since he was 6 months old. At first he loved to watch me put the balls on the track. After a few weeks (around age 7 months), he was putting the balls on the track himself and sometimes intercepting them and grabbing them back off again on their way down. He loves to drop a ball in the top hole. He also loves to inspect and grab the bells, the 2 goblin heads and he especially loves to make the yellow goblin's hands move. This toy certainly teaches "cause and effect", visual tracking and fine motor skills. Highly recommended toy! Update- my son is now 17 months and this is still one of his very favorite toys. He plays with this several times a day.

my little niece is less than one year old, and this was the perfect toy for her, despite the fact that it is rated for 1 1/2 year old babies

I generally love Haba toys, but they seem to have issues with their ball tracks (we have the construction set for older kids, also). We bought this for our nearly two-year-old. It's not fun. The balls don't stay on the track. A ball put in at the top has less than a 50% chance of making it to the bottom, so you spend all your time chasing runaway balls. The wood is lovely and I'm sure it will last forever - especially since my kids have no interest in playing with it. SO not worth the money.

I expected better from a HABA toy. The three planks are plywood, not solid wood as it appears in the photo, and that would be only a slight disappointment rather than a big problem, except that the one we received also has two manufacturing defects. One of the defects is a hole in one of the plywood layers, due to a knot (they didn't even select knot-free wood :-( ), that was repaired poorly during manufacture with wood filler, leaving a smaller hole and an uneven lump of filler in the middle of the top track, and the other is a round hollow spot where too much wood was removed in a lower area of the track. The second defect often causes the balls to stop rolling down. I would send it back, but this is not a "Free Returns" item, and the shipping charge that would be deducted from my refund would likely be high due to the size and weight of the item.

The toy is also not terribly interesting to my one-year-old. He prefers to throw the balls, which presents a problem since they are so heavy and potentially destructive. His Playskool Ball Popper holds his attention for much longer periods of time, and has balls that are not a hazard to throw.

I'm not sure why Amazon has a small parts warning, since the balls are above chokable size and the bells are securely attached; the manufacturer recommended age is 18 months and up, not 3+.

Update: a year later, my son is now 2 years old, and has never had more than passing interest in this toy, despite being very interested in how things work and loving to play with other balls. We have put it away periodically in an attempt to renew his interest when it comes out as a "new" toy, but to no avail.

We did a lot of research on ball drops before purchasing this one. The others had a lot of reviews of either being too flimsy or too small. This is solid, and just big enough to be a fully enjoyable toy. Though it is not massive in our house either. I of course wish there was some way to not lose the balls, but that would sort of defeat the thing if they were self-contained!! Excellent gift for my son's first birthday.

Follow up 8 months later:

This wasn't a big hit after all. My son enjoyed it enough but never played for more than 2 minutes at a time or a few minutes a day. Compared to some other toys he got that xmas (including his radio flyer wood bike - which he plays with for hours a day), this was a bit of a bust. We put it away after 5 months or so of balls disappearing all the time. Cost benefit wasn't worth it to keep it out!
