Beautiful toy. Very well made AND.....are you ready......no extra packing except for the box it came in!!! No zip ties, no twist ties, no tape, no plastic!!! Just box and toy!!!! No assembly required!!!! And super fun! This is a toy of quality that you can pass down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, well-constructed, poorly-designed.
I generally love Haba toys, but they seem to have issues with their ball tracks (we have the construction set for older kids, also). We bought this for our nearly two-year-old. It's not fun. The balls don't stay on the track. A ball put in at the top has less than a 50% chance of making it to the bottom, so you spend all your time chasing runaway balls. The wood is lovely...

Really great toy! I thought it was overpriced (but it was a gift) and it took up too much space in our little house...but we LOVE it!!! I've regifted/donated so many plastic ball toy things that we always get as gifts, but this is the one thing I've held on to. My son and his friends have played with it for over 2 years (he's 3 1/2 now) and now our 8 month old baby will play with it for 20 minutes at a time. It's really well made and old-school fun - with no batteries and plastic. If I ever need to buy someone a nice baby gift, I'm going to buy this.

We've had this for 2 years and have NEVER had a ball not make it down the track. Not once. Ours is made very well and we have no complaints about it. It was a great purchase. Our son still plays with it all the time! As he gets older he finds new ways to play with it, like putting 2 or 3 balls on it and holding them back from starting until he gets the # of them all set to go.

The balls don't stay on the track. A ball put in at the top has less than a 50% chance of making it to the bottom, so you spend all your time chasing runaway balls. The wood is lovely and I'm sure it will last forever - especially since my kids have no interest in playing with it. SO not worth the money.

I expected better from a HABA toy. The three planks are plywood, not solid wood as it appears in the photo, and that would be only a slight disappointment rather than a big problem, except that the one we received also has two manufacturing defects. One of the defects is a hole in one of the plywood layers, due to a knot (they didn't even select knot-free wood :-( ), that was repaired poorly during manufacture with wood filler, leaving a smaller hole and an uneven lump of filler in the middle of the top track, and the other is a round hollow spot where too much wood was removed in a lower area of the track. The second defect often causes the balls to stop rolling down. I would send it back, but this is not a "Free Returns" item, and the shipping charge that would be deducted from my refund would likely be high due to the size and weight of the item.

The toy is also not terribly interesting to my one-year-old. He prefers to throw the balls, which presents a problem since they are so heavy and potentially destructive. His Playskool Ball Popper holds his attention for much longer periods of time, and has balls that are not a hazard to throw.

I'm not sure why Amazon has a small parts warning, since the balls are above chokable size and the bells are securely attached; the manufacturer recommended age is 18 months and up, not 3+.

Update: a year later, my son is now 2 years old, and has never had more than passing interest in this toy, despite being very interested in how things work and loving to play with other balls. We have put it away periodically in an attempt to renew his interest when it comes out as a "new" toy, but to no avail.

I coveted this for our first child but couldn't justify the expense with so many other first-time expenses to consider. But I caved with our second and I am so glad I did. What a lovely toy that is fun at so many different age ranges. It is technically a first birthday present but we started playing with at ten months. My infant just loves it and her toddler brother loves to play with it as well. It will have a long life in our home and the homes of our friend.

It well built and finely finished. Quality.

This thing is solid. Our baby's had it for over a year and it gets some of her time everyday. This is the kind of toy that your baby will be able to save for the next generation.

(addenda) Our daughter is two years old now and still loves to play with this toy. I'm glad we bought it for her.

My 15-month old baby baby figured this toy out in the first day, played with it a bit and pretty much lost interest. It's very well made, he's tipped it over, and righted it with out any visible damage to the toy. The balls all make it down the track. The reviewer that said hers didn't must have gotten a defective one. There is no problem with this toy at all. The only downside is that the plan hammering toy I got holds baby's attention as long if not longer and costs a fraction as much Plan Toy Hammer Balls. Incidentally the balls for these two toys are interchangeable in case you wanted additional balls for either one. If you want a roll-track toy, maybe this one will work Maxim EverEarth Matterhorn Mountain for a fraction the cost.

Update. After much teaching, the baby does play with it more now. He likes inserting the ball through the holes and then watching it slide down the rest of the track. And plan balls are ALMOST a perfect fit, but not quite, but the baby has fun giving the single one that sticks an extra push to help it through that particular problem hole.
