Solid new album,

I first came across Living Things when they were on tour opening for the Brides of Destruction at a dumpy club in Baltimore MD. There was something about the LT's that resonated with me,so I tracked down their debut LP which is pretty good. The new one, "Habeas Corpus" is even better.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. The bottom line here is that the album is packed with catchy, simple songs that will grab your attention the 1st time through. There really isn't a bad song in the bunch.

Living Things, Finding Their Groove.,
This review is from: Habeas Corpus (Audio CD)
I have been anticipating the release of the new CD from Living Things for a couple of months now. When I stubled on their first CD, it was by mistake. The old days of spending a day in a privately owned record store and just listening to anything you want seem to be long gone, in my part of the states anyway. It was a great way to find new music. Now music video channels do not play videos, and the radio is just a waste of electricity. Ok, with all that being said their first CD was good, but it wasn't great. They we're still finding themselves musically. Politically and as a rock and roll band I believe they have never faltered, but some of the tracks on the first CD seemed to grow tired to me. With "Habeas Corpus" this Rock and Roll Funk band has a fluidity through the entire CD. The production sounds more solid, the riffs are easier to hear, and the message is very clear. I have always loved Rock and Roll with a Conscious, but these guys make me want to dance while protesting. They rock on the side of Buckcherry, but with a heavier drum sound, It's like Eric Carr has returned in their drummer's body. Buy this CD, make your friends buy this CD, word of mouth is still the best way for a great band to make a good living. Also hoping that their management will hook them up with someone great to tour with this summer and through the Winter. Get Inspired with "Living Things" latest release "Habeas Corpus" and have a great 2009!

I've loved this album. I listen to it at least once a month, usually to get through a tough afternoon at work. I wish they had more albums out.

Dump your producer, go back to Steve Albini,
This review is from: Habeas Corpus (Audio CD)
I saw them perform last night (4/16/2010) as the opening act for Alice in Chains (nice surprise!). The concert sound was so much closer to the band's sound on Ahead of the Lions. I couldn't believe that this was same band. The production/sound of this album detracts greatly from the quality of this band. Hopefully, this was an experiment in sound gone wrong and the band returns with better production more akin to the sound produced by Steve Albini on their next album.

The main thing that makes the Living Things' Habeas Corpus just so enjoyable is the constant groove. The albums seriously plays like one long uni-groove. It's fantastic.
The main thing that keeps the Living Things' Habeas Corpus from being just so enjoyable is for one, the fact that it plays like a protest album from Joan Beaz and that doesn't bode well with the music. The lyrics are just to hippie. This brings the second reason that keeps the album from being better than it is. This feels like a bunch of b-sides and rarites from Marc Bolan and T-Rex. Now these are some good rarities however, it still doesn't feel the slightest bit originial.

Catchy, good beats,

I stumbled upon this band while listening to XM Radio on Dish TV (nothing worth watching at the time). I heard "Oxygen" and immediately turned my head to see who this artist was. They sound like the band "The Faint," rock mixed with dancey groovey beats- so addicting! I turned this album up while I was cleaning and had an awesome time. I hope they come to Atlanta soon, so I can see them live! :)

The Living Thing's continue to be an underrated band. They deserve more exposure. The Berlin brother's consistently write song's with melodic hook's. Hard rocking number's along with slower song's that are just as tuneful. That's the key, SONGWRITING. While a lot of band's can play their instrument's well, and also have good vocalist's, it is'nt much good without something you can easily whistle, or hum. So call your radio stations, and put in a request for this band, and maybe the'll stop playing Linkin Park, and Blink 182.
