This cage is good, but overpriced. I paid $45 at PetCo when it's really worth more around $30/$35.

Structure: It's sturdy and easy to clean. The bottom plastic part is a good height, the bars are good for letting air in/out, and the clear lock top is great for all angle acess to the cage. The round edges are very easy to clean.

Accessories: The water thing doesn't work very well though, so I had to buy another attachable one. The blue thing (I think they call it a "treat tray") that hangs down with the tube is completely useless and only takes up room. The wheel is a good size and is pretty quiet as it spins, but sometimes my hamster runs too fast and shakes the whole thing, making a lot of noise. I also added a tissue box end for a house which takes up most of the open area, but also adds another level.

Size: The size of this cage is probably perfect for dwarf hamsters. My teddy bear/syrian hamster is a little too big for it, so I'll have to add on some connections with the available tube openings. The picture shown has a far too small hamster photoshopped in. My Syrian is about 5 months old and is a little shorter than the width of the wheel.

This is excellent if used as part of a habitrail setup to get fresh air into it (or add some tubes and a den and it is big enough to be a cage by itself). We were always having problems with humidity (and odors until we added this cage to the system. The feeding station is a joke, and just gets in the way. This lets us use a regular water bottle instead of the leaky OVO bottle. We also always replace the plastic wheels with wire ones because when they poop in the plastic wheels it doesn't fall out and they end up running in it... I wish they would sell this without the water bottle, feeding tray and wheel - because it's best value is as a well ventilated cage with high bottoms and an easy to use and easily accessible top.

I bought this recently as I was unhappy with the Habitrail Cristal I was previously using (the base doesn't secure well on that one and one of my girls got her foot stuck!). The water bottle looks cool but isn't very functional. The food tube thing doesn't make sense - my Russian Dwarfs were able to get up into it but there's not much room to put food in it and it could just fall down the tube defeating the purpose of it being separate. I was able to fabricate a second level with a cheap tupperware lid and put my food bowl and a water bottle up there, utilizing the stairs from my Habitrail Cristal (although they were able to reach the wires and could climb up there without the stairs). I do really like the lid top, and the secure snaps that hold the wire section/lid to the plastic base. I transport my hamsters occasionally and this cage feels a lot sturdier than the Cristal did. I also love all the attachments you can get, and the pricing is pretty reasonable. I don't really like the wheel and wish there was a way to swap it out with another one that could secure to the cage, however the slot only fits the wheel it comes with (granted I could just use the base that came with my "silent" wheel. All in all I do like the cage a lot more than the Cristal with the modifications I made, plus I felt it was worth staying with the Habitrail brand so I could utilize the cool attachments (and even connect it back to the Cristal to give them even more space!)

We got this marked down at a local pet store. We're going to buy some of the add on pieces and we have one mouse in it. It would easily accommodate 2. The assembly directions are useless - match up the notches on the base to the protruding tabs on the rings and press. The water pod has to go at the end that has the retaining ring for the feeding station. The wheel protrudes pretty far into the container and takes up too much space, but it's quiet. Everything has to be put together in a very specific way, but if you just look at the pieces it's easy enough to figure out.
A lot of people have complained that their pet can't get up the tube to the feeding station - I made a little bridge that hooks through the bars just above the feeding station, which gives an extra surface to run across, and since they will climb the bars there's no problem getting into the feeding station. But it wasn't very well planned. Also, the water bottle is total crap - it leaks, it's hard to take apart to clean and keep your pet secure while you're doing it; I got a glass no drip bottle and mounted to the side. Right now I'm just leaving the water bottle empty and letting her sleep in the little pod, but that will be the first piece I replace. All in all, it's nice, easy to clean and looks good but has some design flaws which can be overcome but shouldn't have to be.

The only thing that i don't like about this is kind of small,
You need extension so your hamster don't go crazy.

Habitrail Twist, like most Habitrail products, are too small as a stand-alone unit for even a dwarf hamster to call home. That said, it is an excellent starter piece for a hamster habitat. Personally, I plan on adding a Habitrail Cristal on top of the Twist (like a second floor of sorts) as well as some ovo pods (maze and pieces from dwarf kit) and some Habitrail Mini tubes.

I recently adopted a dwarf hamster from a lady who bought one for her too-young daughter and he lived in a filthy cage and had a lot of anxiety. When I moved him to this new cage, he ran about frantically but once he calmed down, he seemed to enjoy the deep space for burrowing. There is a lot of space for ventilation so I don't have to worry about condensation like the ovo pods. I will keep him in it for about a week or until he seems more familiar with the habitat before adding more space for him.

WARNING: The wheel has slits where little hamster feets can get caught. I taped the inside with clear packing tape as a temporary measure. I've also seem people use non-toxic silicon caulk to fill it up. I think the wheel is too big for him anyway and will be replacing it. I also did not use the loft area as he couldn't go up the tube.

Assembly was pretty easy but I wish they included more detailed instructions for the connectors. (You twist it until it feels stiff.)

EDIT: Be careful if your robo is an escape artist. The bar spacing is a bit wide. Should be fine if you use low bedding but that defeats the purpose of burrowing...

Summary opinion: it is made by Habitrail. The design is far better than most competing units, and the manufacturing tolerances are excellent. That means (for the non-geek) that things fit together right with forcing anything, EXCEPT the connectors.

It gets 5 stars because the standard for the product category is not high.

Cons: the connectors are a problem. They take extra time fiddling to get them to snug up securely. Still, these connectors are a superior design to the K*yTee ones (size and interconnect compatible, these are 2-inch tunnels) ...this matters when you need to disassemble for cleaning or reconfiguring, both of which I do frequently, and I expect many adult pet owners and many motivated kids will do that too.

Pros (what I didn't already mention): The beautiful clear lid, letting me see down into the cage (erm, "home") of my gerbils, is the most outstanding piece / feature.

Quirky: my gerbils use the "drinking chamber" as a out of the way place to de-fecate and thus we squeamish humans with our odd biases have to watch the pets lying in that debris in order to take a drink. However, your pets may not create a "midden" like mine do.

I bought this as an extension from Cookie's 110qt bin cage along with some other Habitrail modules (adventure pack, tower and mini maze). Most of the Habitrail product are a bit small for hamsters, b/c they do need lots of open space for activities. In nature they only go into tunnels and nests when they go to sleep, and when they are awake they Do all kinds of things in the open land. In my case, I don't worry so much about this since he has a bin cage as well. I would not recommend getting only this for your hammie. It is really compact and once you put all the parts in, your hammie won't have much space to run around. The size of the wheel (~7.5 inch) isn't too bad. It's very close to the minimum size for Syrians (8 inch) and if you have a dwarf, the size would be perfect. The wheel had some noise at first but after adding some veggie oil from the back of the wheel, it becomes really silent! I agree with other reviewers that the food dispenser/tower/whatever is not so good of design. I used my own food dish instead. Again, if you are going to get this, make sure you also get some other extensions so your hammie has lots of space to play in!

I ordered this, the ovo loft and ovo home for my hamster. I ended up returning them all do to poor quality of the other two cages, one being used and dirty and this one only because the plastic was cracked. Had the twist not been damaged I would have kept it for a temp cage while doing full cage cleanings. I think this cage is pretty good, good quality and durable, wheel too small for most hamsters, food treat thing useless and don't know if the water bottles work from no experience. However if you take everything out, it's great for a temp or travel cage. Overall I would not recommend any habitrail cages even if connecting a bunch. Wasn't happy with the poor quality of the other two and lack of proper ventilation.

Very pleased with this cage. Its easy to clean, you can view your pet better than other cages, deep bottom keeps all shavings in the cage, top opens completely so easy access to your pet. The only thing I didn't care for was the treat holder. I felt it took up space and wasn't really needed so I removed it. Over all Im very pleased I have tried several different types and brands of cages over the years and this one is by far the best one I have purchased so far.
