5.0 out of 5 stars Well crafted, deceptively catchy tracks.
You may not realize it on your first listen to Animal, or any of the other tracks, but you'll have at least one of these ten songs stuck in your head the rest of the day. Make sure to get the two bonus tracks, as Farther Down is one of their finest songs which was sadly left off the album. Our War is another favorite, but it is hard to top the opener Sins of my Youth...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough foilage on this tree
I heard this band on TV, and they seem interesting. Still, I haven't bought an album with only eight songs since, well, about 1983. It really seems like a waste of good disc space. I think the Trees should have held off until they built up a little more foilage. I think I'll hold out for the $5 pricing on this mini-album.

You may not realize it on your first listen to Animal, or any of the other tracks, but you'll have at least one of these ten songs stuck in your head the rest of the day. Make sure to get the two bonus tracks, as Farther Down is one of their finest songs which was sadly left off the album. Our War is another favorite, but it is hard to top the opener Sins of my Youth which is one of their most powerful songs.

Elaine pounds the drums live, and you'll be hitting along on your steering wheel or desk with her as you listen. Branden's bass is much more in your face than 99% of other bands out there, and for good reason. The rhythm section truly work together to make this band what it is - listen to the intro of Love & Affection, for example. Chris' guitar work accents the solid rhythm section with melodies and chords that lurk in the background completing the song, like the outro to Farther Down, but also can stand out on their own when needed, like the main riff of Sins of my Youth. Finally Tyler somehow manages to combine Springsteen, Morrissey, & MJ all into one performer with powerful lyrics & an amazing stage presence. You can't help but sing along to the man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have CD for 2010!, May 19, 2010
This review is from: Habits (MP3 Download)
I had the good fortune to see this band open for 30 Seconds To Mars in Vegas and LA and was blown away by their performance. Seeing them live they seemed like a very humble and cool band out of Utah who are starting to see the fruits of their work. I really dig Love & Affection and was happy to hear the chorus from Animal on a TV ad for Vegas the other day. I highly recommend this CD to everyone which is filled with catchy hip tunes that will stick with you as others have commented on.

This album has it all- deep lyrics, fun melodies, originality, and genuine. Going to a concert and meeting them is only that much more of an enhancement from the CD. The album hits common, relatable issues including love, friendship, drugs, being able to let go, and having fun. The melodies themselves help tell the story. It's such a perfect combination. An undeniably underrated band that deserves more attention and mainstream popularity.

Addendum: The Vinyl version has a surprise with it where you can get the full album (and more). So even if you don't have a record player, it's worth buying the vinyl brand new before the end of 2010!

Such a GREAT album from beginning to end I just can't stop listening to this one...in my personal opinion one of the best debut albums I've heard in a long while...

You WILL NOT be disappointed with any song on this album. The ONLY gripe I have is it's only 9 songs which leaves me craving more and more...definitely made me a HUGE fan of Neon Trees I just want to eat them up!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, May 20, 2010

This is the type of album that you can listen to all the way through. Every song is catchy and gets stuck in your head after just one listen. I've been listening to this album practically non-stop for 3 days and I still want to turn it on, all the way up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar Album - Not Long Enough, May 19, 2010

An excellent album from start to finish - it is hard to 'classify' into a genre of rock; at times it feels like 'anthem'-like fist pumping isn't inappropiate, but quickly followed with something very smart and grooveable, such as "Girls and Boys In School". That track, along with "Animal", "1983", and "Our War" are my initial favorites, but it is solid eclectic rock from start to finish. As a debut it is even more impressive - probably the most complete and compelling debut in the alt-rock genre since The Killers got their start. All in all - one of 2010's best releases as of now (May 2010).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut cd and band, May 18, 2010

I first heard Neon Trees when iTunes gave it out as a free single. This was around the same time that I got tickets to see 30 Seconds to Mars and saw that Neon Trees was opening. I loved the first single Animals so much that I couldn't wait to get the cd, which I think came out a week later. After hearing the entire cd, I couldn't get enough. I wish that there were more songs on it. Neon Trees' blend of synth, guitars, and Tyler Glenn's vocals make for the perfect pop/rock/electro sound. There is also a theme throughout the whole album, mostly about youth which everyone can relate to.
I ended up see the band last week with 30 Seconds to Mars and the music is even more explosive live. Tyler has so much energy(plus great dance moves), as does Elaine on the drums, Chris on the guitar and Branden on the bass. I can't wait for more music from this band and to see them on the road again soon.

I saw this band live. They opened up for 30 sec to mars, Awesome live band. After the show the singer Tyler Glenn, was hanging out in the lobby area meeting his fans, I thought that was the greatest. So I bought the CD. I love this CD. I have been listen to it for 3 days now. I can't wait for another chance to see them again. This is a band that can go the distance.

I had been hearing about Neon Trees for months and kept meaning to check them out, but never got around to it. On my day off a few weeks ago, I checked out their site [...] and listened to a few tracks and new I HAD TO buy this album. I bought the MP3s online because I just couldn't wait. It is so ridiculously good. They have a sound similiar to the Killers, but so obviously different at the same time. I am so glad I got this, I've literally been listening to it nonstop, all day every day, since I bought it. The only thing I'm dissapointed about is that I didn't know about them sooner. Don't second guess yourself, you have to get this album!

I heard "Animals" on the radio (99X in Atlanta) and loved it. Had to have the album. The whole thing is wonderful and my favorite song is probably "Girls and Boys in School." Buy this album.
