Great read for any Habs fan, January 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Habs (Brian McFarlane's Original Six) (Paperback)
This is a great read for any fan of the Montreal Canadiens. Whether you are a long-time follower and want to relive some moments of glory, or a recent admirer and want to learn about the incredible legacy of this team, you will like this book. Even to those newer to the sport can easily get caught up in the vivid accounts of times past. At times the descriptive stories about some of the greatest moments in the history of the game brought a rush of emotion and pride as I pictured myself in the Forum of old, cheering on the Richards, Toe Blake, Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur, and so many others. If you like hockey, this book should be considered a must-read.

A fine history of the Montreal Canadiens, July 18, 2011
This review is from: The Habs (Brian McFarlane's Original Six) (Paperback)
Brian McFarlane is one of the most prolific and knowledgeable hockey writers around, and he did hockey fans everywhere a favor when he published his Original Six series: one book each about the Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. His book "The Habs," which chronicles the history of the Montreal Canadiens ("les habitants"), is full of highlights -- no surprise, since the Canadiens are the most successful team in NHL history. Points of particular interest include McFarlane's description of the St. Patrick's Day Riot of 1955, which occurred in response to NHL president Clarence Campbell's banning of Maurice "Rocket" Richard from that year's NHL playoffs, as well as the Habs' still-unmatched record of five straight Stanley Cups. If you are a fan of the Canadiens, or of hockey generally, you should enjoy this book.
