habu, man with a past, investigates a murder,
By A Customer
This review is from: Habu (Daw science fiction) (Paperback)
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? In this case our antihero, habu, gets on the wrong side of a man high in the planetary gov't--a man with a reason to personally hate habu, once he discovers his secret history. In a culture where life is easily prolonged if 1) you can come up with the money and if 2) you're willing to move to a frontier world with a new identity after rejuvenation, settling old scores isn't easy. However, habu's past is marked by a past history of ecological-turnabout-is-fairplay. In fact, he once rendered an entire planet uninhabitable by introducing the snake from which he got his name. Habu comes to investigate the murder of a long-time friend, but winds up pitting himself against powerful forces in the planetary gov't--which side will break first?

sci-fi action, surprise plot segues, original ideas, even a little bit of humour and romance. What more could you ask? An EBOOK VERSION!!! Please! Put it on ebook so I don't have to carry a paperback version of this and other James B Johnson books (notably, Mindhopper, even more beloved by me than this one), with me for the rest of my life.
