5.0 out of 5 stars Hack Slash Omnibus Volume 2 Good clean campy read
Hack Slash Omnibus Volume 2 is just a good clean campy B-Horror movie read where Cassie and Vlad continue with the mayhem that started in Volume 1. Throughout the Hack Slash series, the premise is that the one survivor takes the battle to those who would do the general mayhem and killing. Volume 2 collects the first 14 issues of hack slash as well as the annual and other...

3.0 out of 5 stars Vlad is rad. Cassie, not so much....
I do not like Cassie. She represents a type of girl I find annoying and distressing (this was basically secured in the Suicide Girls story - which, by the way, was horrible). I think the stories are entertaining (most of the time) but it's not enough. I actually began to feel like I was wasting my time halfway through this volume! You know, asking myself, what about...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hack Slash Omnibus Volume 2 Good clean campy read, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 2 (v. 2) (Forgotten Realms) (Paperback)
Volume 2 collects the first 14 issues of hack slash as well as the annual and other miscellaneous materials together into one awesome B-Movie horror fest in style. Overall, the art is good, the writing is good, and the story lines make sense, which can be an issue when it comes to collecting and putting together an omnibus for a comic book series.

Some of the villains in the series are Acid Washed and Father Wrath and includes Cassie's first encounter with Georgia, who is just simply a nasty character. Acid Washed and Father Wrath are ok as villains, but like all villains, you know how this is going to end, bloody and in small chunks. The windup and the pitch on the final battles with the villains is well laid out and well drawn. This is definitely B-Movie style material, lots of camp, lots of mayhem and lots of gore to settle out on the pages of the book. This is a very large book and will take days to read, but I found myself laughing at some of this wondering if I was supposed to suspend everything, much like watching many of the older 80's slasher movies. Good fun, and definitely rated 5 of 5 stars just because the whole rocks. Quite simply one of the best omnibus versions I have read in a while for comic books. This book is well worth adding to your collection and having a grin over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hack/Slash is just pure fun, March 19, 2011

I am a huge horror movie fan, and I have enjoyed horror type comics for years, and Hack/Slash has quickly become my favorite. Lots of blood and guts, laugh out loud jokes, references to horror films inside the stories, and overall great fun. This book was truly a blast. Number 3 is next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy fun!, September 15, 2011
This review is from: Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 2 (v. 2) (Forgotten Realms) (Paperback)
I finished the first volume within a day so I figured hey, why not check out the next one? I'm rather glad I did since the storytelling does improve with this volume. (OK, so I admit that the cover art drew me in as well.)

The storytelling has improved with this volume, as do the cameos by both actual people and familiar horror icons. We get a glimpse at some Suicide Girls in this volume and while it does serve to be more of a vehicle for SG during that chapter, it was still pretty decent. (Sometimes you've just got to sit back and enjoy the... scenery.)

This is still a pretty shallow comic series, choosing to focus more on the cameos and horror cliches, but you can't really begrudge Seeley this fact. This series never hides what it is, which is part of why I've come to love it so much. Sometimes stuff like this just works and for Hack/Slash it does.

I think the stories are entertaining (most of the time) but it's not enough. I actually began to feel like I was wasting my time halfway through this volume! You know, asking myself, what about this whole thing do I actually like?? And that was when it hit me... I kinda like Vlad... that's it. Plus, I often notice Tim Seeley's hard-on for this girl - whether that's manifested in the art or her character - and, honestly, it's juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust weird if not pathetic (strong word, I know, but I'm trying to be honest).
