Really Good cd, October 24, 2004
Really good cd,it combines two of their albums together so u cant beat that.but for all of you out there who dont really like mortician,give them a few more tries and you might like them.this whole cd is pretty good ,but the best ones on here in my opinion are:Bloodcraving,three on a meathook,hacked up for barbeque,necrocannibal,mortician,devoured alive,zombie Apocalypse,blood harvest.so check this cd out and also check out darkest day of horror,and chainsaw disememberment.

The True Zombies of Death Metal, February 22, 2007
Well I finally did it. I bought my first Mortician record today. I have held off for years on trying one of this band's albums. For the most part this was due to the fact of a lot of bad reviews this band has received, and also in part that they use a drum machine. After trying the industrial death metal band The Berzerker and not thinking the drum machine was that bad I decided to give Mortician another look. I must also state in this review that I am a huge fan of intricate death metal. I think bands such as Morbid Angel, Nile, Cryptopsy, Death, Atheist, and Behemoth are incredible. These bands are more than talented. However I also think Death and grind bands such as Suffocation, Obituary, Carcass, Dismember, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Amon Amarth, and Six Feet Under to name a few equally deserve recognition. So the big question is; were does a band like Mortician stand among bands such as these?
Well if you ask some they will say in the toilet after each of these bands have used it. Although others may say that Mortician belong right along side of Morbid Angel, and Nile. As for me after listening to "Hacked up for Barbeque/Zombie Apocalypse" I would disagree with both of these statements. For me Mortician fall on the lower end of my death metal top count down but that doesn't mean I think they're horrible.
The biggest attraction to Mortician for me is probably the fact that they are a horror/gore themed band. I am huge horror film fan. I like everything from classics like Frankenstein, and Dracula, to B grade zombie and slasher films. So the fact that Mortician use clips from horror films and have brutal gore lyrics is a plus for me. The music itself is death metal at its most minimal form. Death bands such Nile, Cryptopsy, and Gorguts rank extremely high on the technical aspect of death metal. A band like Mortician is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. If all you like is a strong tech death band then please stay clear away from Mortician. But if you also like bands such early Cannibal Corpse, Dismember, Skinless, and Six Feet Under you might want to give Mortician a listen. Granted bands like Six Feet Under still look technical next to Mortician. The best way to describe this album is it sounds like early Cannibal Corpse taken a step further. There are actually some really catchy brutal grooves to this album. The vocals are also extremely deep. They are completely unrecognizable, even for death vocals. However, in my opinion they go well with the basic heavy riffs. The riffs do sound similar throughout the record but for this particular style of death metal it bothers me little.
What does bother me the most about Mortician is the length of their songs. They are way too short. There are a lot of tracks that are under one minute and some even are only 30 seconds long. I find this annoying because a track will start with a catchy hook and will just begin to build up then just abruptly end. Then there is the drum machine. I find for the simplicity of this style of metal the machine does the job pretty well, but when I listen to the blast beats and drum work I know that there are plenty of accomplished extreme metal drummers who could produce the particular beats that Mortician are aiming for. Bottom line guys bag the machine and get a real live drummer.
All in all Mortician are just offering a different style of death metal, which is good because there are so many copyists out there. I would go as far to say that there is not any death band I have heard like them. For the most part I enjoyed listening to this record, it felt like I was listening to an extreme horror movie soundtrack. When I am in the mood to hear some brutal gore metal and want something a little less technical Mortician is a nice choice. On a side note I listened to "Hacked up for Barbeque" along side of Cryptopsy's "Once was not" and the two cds complimented each other well. Both extremes played back to back gave a diversely brutal listening experience.

World full of horror, March 9, 2006
The Mortician legacy I (The good):
Do you like old horror movies like Texas chainsaw massacre and Evil dead? Have you always wondered what would be the perfect soundtrack to the most evil movie? Are you a death metal enthusiast? Well, then Mortician is for you. The music is an intense mix of programmed nonstoping blastbeats, detuned guitars and indescifrable growls. You can hear samples of vintage films as an intro to some songs, creating an evil atmosphere: Weird dialogues, heavy breathings, horrible pledges, screams, gunshots and unearthy sounds. "Hacked of for Barbeque/Zombie Apocalypse" is the perfect start to dig into this band.
The mortician legacy II (the bad):
To hear an entire album is a tour de force. Music can get repetitive and the songs seems to melt one after another. There are songs that clock the 0:30 and you won't notice the change between two different track. As someone say, "Just get a Mortician album, the other ones are similar"
I know this is not the most technical or creative death metal album but I'm giving it 4 starts because they have done something different... and beacuse I'm a big fan of horror films too. So, it's up to you to enter the world of Mortician, a world that is full of murderers, monsters, malignancy and blood.
