Not just for dummies!,
By
This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
Don't let the title deceive you. This book is a comprehensive look at how to plan out modifications to your car. While lots of people love "modifying" their cars, it's quite easy to get sucked into the hole of buying the wrong parts for the wrong reasons. It won't tell you the difference between one specific exhaust to another, but it'll help you figure out what you should be looking for in qualities and features in the products you purchase AND what products you can avoid entirely.
This book helps cut through the BS in a lot of the aftermarket parts industry and helps you quickly and easily find what you should be looking for when you want to modify your car. Open the book to a random page, and more often than not, you'll find some interesting tidbit that you wouldn't have necessarily known before. In addition there's a rather large (6 chapters) and in-depth discussion on ECU and piggyback devices, taking a closer look at how to push the limits of your vehicle with computer technologies. Given the authors background, I'd say this is about the most eye-opening chapter that's a great resource for even advanced auto enthusiasts. And while you can't expect the book to tell you how the specifics of how to unbolt your old engine and replace it with a high performance monster nut by nut, it will help you find the resources online to get the specifics to the questions you might still have. There's a whole chapter dedicated to dozens of forums full of enthusiasts ready to help you find the answer to the questions you seek.

This is a very well thought out book, it covers a wide range of information but doesnt seem disjointed at all. Helps alot when trying to drill through all the hype that aftermarket manufacturers use. Also it is a very easy and quick to read book. Highly recommended!!!

Girl-Friendly Read,

This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
As a woman who only has a cursory knowledge about cars and all the potential one can hold, I found this book to be particularly helpful and written in simple enough and very clear language that enabled me as a novice modder to complete my own projects without too much outside help. Definitely A+++++.

THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR RICERS,
This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
This book covers a broad range of performance accessories from the Haltech/Motec standalones to crossed drilled rotors and if they have any effect on braking.
Very informative read and I'm happy I bought it. I am in the process of building a custom turbo for my car, and this is answering basic questions. Like what the knob on top of my wastegate is for, where the boost controller is going to give the wastgate it signal. The stuff that knowone posts. It is the perfect book for the Chevy 350 guy or the BMW M3 modaholic.

You have car modding questions? This book has answers!,

This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
I was a little skeptical at first--of the need for a book detailing (the relative personal process of) building a high-performance car--but once I saw how much useful stuff they had crammed between those familiar yellow covers, it started to make sense. A lot of sense.
They included objective tables, subjective opinions, and very helpful random ideas that saves time, money, and stress. Some ideas here are already widely known facts, and others are the of the "never-would've-thought-of-it-that-way kind, but having it all together, in the same spot, is helpful. Anyone with a credit card can build a relatively fast car; anyone familiar with Google can find all the information they could ever read on almost any subject--but to build a well-done, balanced project, for a price somewhere under a new M3, planning must be done and ideas researched--starting with a book like this.

David Vespremi really knows his stuff!,
This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is great for an aspiring gear head. The content is easy to comprehend even if you are just starting off and have little or no knowledge on the subject. You do not need to know any specific background information or terminology beforehand, which is what makes this book great! This is the book for you if you want to distinguish yourself from the majority of self proclaimed "tuner experts" that don't actually know what they are talking about. David Vespremi will have you talking the "lingo" in no time, and you will feel comfortable hanging with any "tech talk."

I thought this was going to be just another one of those books that promote certain brands of items. But when I read it at the store, boy was I wrong!
I bought it after seeing only the first page of the 1st chapter! This book will really help even some of the most advanced car enthusiasts, it really helped fill in the 'gaps'. Everyone knows a little something, this book helps with the rest. It is a very comprehensive and in-depth encyclopedia on everything that is even remotely related to cars. If you haven't purchased this book yet, order it NOW!

How to customize your street machine.,
By
This review is from: Car Hacks & Mods For Dummies (Paperback)
I wasnt sure what to expect with this book purely because of the inappropriate title, which doesnt do this book any justice. However, the book is better than I had hoped. Here's why:
This book is about customizing your car.Its a comprehensive-detailed book explaining how to customize your car. It covers so many things, which make this book a rarity. It tells you what to consider as well as what to avoid. There are 2 faults with this book: 1)the innapropriate title. It should have been titled something more specific. 2)These series of books dont have photographs, just drawings. And,thats the bad news. The good news is this book offers great advice on customizing your car.Its great value and a great book.Highly recommended. Ignore the title. Its a book on customizing your car.

Any car enthusiast looking to get started on customizing your car or even experienced 'car guys' should pick up this book. I myself am a fairly knowledgable enthusiast, but there was oodles of information in this book that I still didn't know.
Easy to read, easy to follow and loaded with information. Highly recommended.

Very Well written and informative, all basic modifications, but nonetheless well documented. So things were a little clunky and seem like instructiosn were an after thought but it was still worth the money.
