With two snips and two sews, a young girl's mother reinvents her daughter's favorite dress into smaller pieces of fashion as she grows. From a new shirt to a tank top to a skirt to a scarf, to new socks and a hair bow, this young girl realizes that nothing lasts forever, but favorite things can be changed and used again. This picture book will appeal to children ages 4-7, especially those with favoritest things.

My 4 year old granddaughter absolutely loves this book with the sewing and redesign theme. The illustrations are lovely, and the story has a nice rhythm. She and I have been sewing garments all winter, and she will take my scraps and make her own creations. If you love to sew and want to encourage the next generation, please purchase this book for all the young boys and girls in your life. Yes, even my 7 year old grandson loved it.

We first read this at our local library and my daughters fell in love with it. We have since gone on to get our own copy and give another copy to a cousin who loved it as well.

This wonderful book teaches many lessons; recycling, design, creativity, character development and diversity. It uses wonderful language; mountains and molehills, declared, distraught, overwrought just to name a few. It also introduces days of the week and seasons. The illustrations, by Julia Denos bring sewing, clothing, seasons and children to life. We love this book and recommend it for classrooms, silent reading, after school programs and libraries. This African American girl and her mother are a treasure in themselves.

Cute story where the little girl outgrows her dress and with a snip, snip snip, and sew, sew, sew something new is created each time. Tale reminded me of The Little Tailor story, this time with a girl as the featured character. The author tries to be childlike creating strange dialog for the girl. The child's misuse of English sounded strange "favoritest" (sic). So when I read the story I substitute "most favorite" dress.
