Gabriel Marsden is an ex-cop turned author on a quest to find the truth. Everyone thinks that Gabriel died when his car exploded, but he is very much alive and trying to figure out who murdered his wife. Gabriel keeps his distance from anyone and everyone until he sees a woman being mugged outside his apartment building. Gabriel rides to her rescue and hides again before anyone discovers who he is.

Shawna was having a really bad day until Gabriel came to her rescue and than her luck changed. Shawna believes in fate and is determined to find the mysterious man who helped her. It does not take long for her to spot him and finally gets him to talk to her. The only problem is that Gabriel and Shawna are spotted together by the people who killed his ex-wife. Now Shawna and Gabriel are on the run together and in search for the truth. There attraction to one another is obvious, but whether they have a future depends on their ability to put an end to the past.

This is a fast-paced, entertaining, romantic story. The dog is a bit weird (you will just have to read it to understand). I have already read the second book about Shawna's roommate and it is as good as this one, and it even includes the dog.
