5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful pictures, December 5, 2009

This review is from: Hadrian's Wall (Hardcover)
this book is better than i had hoped! the pictures are beautiful and pick up amazing details in the wall and buildings. i was also pleasantly surprised at all the pictures of wonderful old buildings (that were built with some of the stone from the wall)and how the histories of these structures were connected to the wall. the historical narrative is excellent. i found interesting facts about the wall that i hadn't known anything about.
i highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Next best thing to walking the Wall yourself, February 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hadrian's Wall (Hardcover)
I walked the entire Wall in July 2010 (though oddly in the reverse direction from the way this book is written), and this book is a really good souvenir of the hike. Most of the photos really ring a bell with me. Oddly, I took many of the same photos myself, but the author and photographer had the advantage of being able to hang around for the best weather conditions!

This book will sit on my coffee table for quite a while as a reminder of a beautiful stretch of English countryside and a fascinating week's walk. Even if the walk itself isn't on your agenda, it's full of excellent photos and interesting history of Rome in Britain.
