I bought my first pair of Haflinger wool clogs 5 years ago and wore them until the treads were gone and the wool all worn through--i.e. everywhere! I bought my first pair of Haflinger wool clogs 5 years ago and wore them until the treads were gone and the wool all worn through--i.e. everywhere! They are durable, warm, extremely comfortable, attractive with lots of different styles and, for the money, a great bargain. No other clogs have lasted as long and been as good for my feet as these. Some of the less expensive brands are hard for long-distance walking, but these I could wear all day, even at the county fair or while strolling about a new city, and my feet wouldn't get sore at all. I highly recommend. PS: The sizes are generous, so if you're more like, say, a 6-1/2, get a 6 rather than a 7.

They take a little getting-used-to, but I love 'em. I'm on my 4th pair, which translates into about 12 years. Wear them year round. Cork footbed and rubber sole make them good for light outdoor use (e.g. going to the mailbox). Get a pair!

5.0 out of 5 stars shoes for life, March 10, 2009
I have owned several of these shoes for years. I use them for shoes and slippers, they are very warm--no socks needed and easy to slide on and off. I have heel spurs and they are one of the few shoes I can wear all day with total comfort. They are hard to find and very worth the money as you will have them for years!

3.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE these shoes / I HATE these shoes!, March 9, 2011

Bottome Line: Good looking, well made, very comfortable, emits toxic fumes!

I am a senior citizen who never had foot problems until recently. Now I have lots of foot problems and I have to wear something that gives me good arch support at all times. The Haflinger looked like the solution and it was... mostly.

Quality & Fit: The Grizzly is a well made shoe. If you like the picture, you will not be disappointed when you see them. The fit is true to size but somewhat "close". I am not saying that they run small, just that the fit is very "close". I would imagine that after time, they will stretch a little so this is probably a good thing.

Arch Support: This shoe was made to fit the human foot! Unlike many shoes on the market today, this one was modeled after the human foot... yes, I know that is amazing. The Haflinger Grizzly was everything that I had hoped for in arch support. It is perfect.

Comfort: Since I have very sensitive skin, I was worried that the wool may irritate my feet. Not at all. The Grizzly is so comfortable in every way that I can't wait to put them on and I hate to take them off. Really.

Why I HATE these shoes: I have allergies and my eyes/nose/throat/lungs are very sensitive. The midsole is made of cork combined with some type of binding agent that emits a very synthetic, chemical smell which irritates my eyes and lungs. When I sit at my desk, the smell wafts up and gets in my eyes and lungs. I keep hoping that the smell will go away. It has gone away a little but not enough. This is after a month or so of wearing them. When I initially took them out of the box, I could smell the black rubber on the bottom, which smells like a tire store. I hate that smell. I let the shoes set out for a week to let them outgas, hoping the smell would go away. After a week, I put them on. As the shoes warmed up, the chemical smell got really bad. After a month, the smell is not as bad but the effects are still there: dry itchy eyes, irritated lungs.

The Dilemma: I love the comfort and support that these shoes offer. I hate the chemical smell and cannot even leave them in the same room where I sleep. If I were wearing them only outdoors, they would probably be fine but that is not the case. I simply do not know of any other shoe which offers the comparable correct support to replace these shoes. I can't believe that I am still wearing them, due to the irritating effects but it seems that I have no other choice.

Solution: If I had it to do over, I would try the Haflinger Unisex AT Slip-on. It could be the perfect solution. I would buy them now, and use the Grizzlys for outdoors, if I knew that the ATs did not have a chemical smell. The ATs may have all of the things that I love about the Grizzly and none of the bad. Hopefully.

Rating: I have to give only three stars (and should give only one) because of the chemical smell and irritating effects. Everything else about this shoe is five star but this chemical thing is unforgivable. If I had not spent so much on them, I would throw them away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Quality, as Always!, January 3, 2012

This is my 5th pair of Haflinger clogs, and the quality is still fabulous! I wear an 8 1/2 - 9 shoe and always get the 39 (size 8) and they fit perfectly with a light sock. The arch support is wonderful, the wool is soft and not itchy, and they wear like iron. I highly recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful shoes, December 15, 2011
I learned about the Haflinger shoes while visiting Germany, and I saw my German colleagues wearing them around the house. These are much lighter than clogs, better looking than Birkenstocks, and super practical to wear around the house (or quickly to the grocery store in an emergency). The cork foot-beds are very supportive on your feet, and the wool lets your feet breathe, even in really hot and humid weather. I would never buy any other slipper, and I know the quality is great, since German standards are really strict. I hope that this company continues its commitment to high quality footwear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Slippers, September 26, 2011

I bought these at the suggestion of a family member after my fleece and wool shearling slippers gave me no support. The cork footbeds feel great since they've conformed to the shape of my feet and the boiled wool uppers have stretched to fit. They breath well in any temperature and are best when wore with a light moisture wicking sock.

This is my second pair of these clogs. I wore out the last pair... This pair is just as good as the first. In a short period of time they conform to your feet and the fit is even better. Love 'em!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars misleading size, April 16, 2011

This clog is identified as being size 10 M US. It isn't. It is too small for 10 M. I had to give it away to someone with smaller feet, then go to Schuler Shoes to find one that would fit. Not smart to order shoes or clogs, especially ones that are European sizes, over the internet.
