Great Bio Filter Enhancer. (Does not remove NITRATE),
By
This review is from: Aquaclear 50-Gallon Biomax (Misc.)
This does not remove NITRATE! It removes Ammonia and Nitrite. The details on Amazon page says it removes nitrate and this is wrong. Many people new to the hobby confuse Nitrite and Nitrate. Understandable since these sound almost identical. I just wanted to clear that up. To remove nitrate you will have to perform water changes or buy some aquatic plants that will remove a little bit of nitrate. The bacteria only consume the nitrite and ammonia. All this product does is add a lot more surface area for the bacteria to live on thus increasing the biological load your tank can handle. I also want to add that this does not make your water cloudy. If you do not rinse the pellets off as the directions say then you will introduce very fine white dust to the tank. If you rinse the pellets real good until you no longer see powder coming off you should be fine. This is a very good product overall.

BioMax does NOT create cloudy water,
This review is from: Aquaclear 30-Gallon Biomax (Misc.)
This product does NOT create cloudy water if used properly with the Hagen AquaClear filter. Its part of the filters 3 stage filtration system, why would anybody think it would CREATE cloudy water? The BioMax reduces ammonia and nitrate levels which are common causes of cloudy water. Saying it creates cloudy water is just absurd.

Way better than the one it came with the AquaClear 50 when I bought it. This one comes in a clothe net bag, so there's no cutting or transferring the rocks, just rinse and drop. Although it kind of takes a bit longer for the beneficial bacteria to build up than the old one I got that has a plastic net.

My Fish give it 'All fins up!',

My 'local' pet shop said they carried these products when I bought the Aquarium filter system. Wrong!! So thanks to Amazon.com I can have an upgrade in filtration and don't have to travel seventy miles to who-knows-where to get my supplies. Thank heavens for 7/11, but, what about Amazon.com?

I ORDERED THIS BAG OF BIO BEADS TO HELP FILTER OUT MY TANK. I USE THE AQUACLEAR 110 GALLON FILTER WITH MY 55 GALLON TANK. I LOVE THESE BIO BEADS BECAUSE YOU CAN RINSE THEM MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE HAVING TO REPLACE THEM.

The the filter and all of its components work great and keep the water in my aquarium looking fresh and clear. All three parts of the filter are very easy to move and replace.

I love this. I was adviced to run 1 sponge and 2 bags of biomax on my aquaclear filter and it is great. The only time that you ever need to run carbon is if you are trying to remove medicine from the water, other that thoes rare times you should run 2 bags of biomax to increase your benefitial bacteria colony. My only regret with this is that I did not get another bag. You never need to replace this. It is very bad for your aquarium if you throw away your benifitial bacteria.

This is the best and easiest bio filter I have ever used! No parts to break as you would have with a bio wheel. This eliminates the old under-gravel filters which did work very well but required you to break down your tank every other year to clean it out. My water is beautiful. It's Clear with just a little yellowing from the hunk of driftwood I have in the tank.

Really Works,

Takes about a week to work but when it starts, it really brings down ammonia levels to zero. I tested the water and changed about 15% every two days (to keep ammonia levels low) until it kicked in.
My only complaint is that the beneficial bacteria builds up really quickly on the bio-max and will block some of the water in the filter from going into the tank. However, that can be easily fixed by using some tank water (dip out some) and placing the bio-max pack in it so some of the bacteria will be removed (Using freshwater will kill all beneficial bacteria on the bio-max) |
