5.0 out of 5 stars Discover KENT
Kent have fast become my favourite band in the world! ISOLA (the English version) was my favourite CD of 1999. I saw Kent live at ULU in London, Jan 99, and was blown away. Melancholic, pleading, downbeat, lovelorn -the sound is very alternative (think The Cardigans at their darkest, less hard-edged maybe with shades of Depeche/U2/Oasis + replace Nina with the...

I must say that I think it's amazing that this band have reached the USA. I thought it was enough that they were and still are so big here in Sweden, but now people that don't even unerstand what they're singing about listen to them too. And they like them!? Well I guess and hope that it's because of the fact that they don't understand the lyrics, otherwise I don't know...

5.0 out of 5 stars Discover KENT, February 15, 2000
This review is from: Hagnesta Hill (Swedish Language) (Audio CD)
Kent have fast become my favourite band in the world! ISOLA (the English version) was my favourite CD of 1999. I saw Kent live at ULU in London, Jan 99, and was blown away. Melancholic, pleading, downbeat, lovelorn -the sound is very alternative (think The Cardigans at their darkest, less hard-edged maybe with shades of Depeche/U2/Oasis + replace Nina with the charismatic Joakim Berg -if you thought Bono was a Sex God, check out Joakim!). ISOLA was excellent but HAGNESTA HILL is a leap up! One great song after another ranging from fantastic, mid-tempo, guitar-led, modern rock anthems (like KUNGEN AR DOD + REVOLT III) to slower, darker, moody journeys (like KEVLARSJAL and the second half of the CD). My favourite track is the lead single in Sweden -MUSIK NON STOP -it's a brilliant, new, almost funkier side to the band. So it's all in Swedish -that makes absolutely no difference (well not to me anyway!). The music alone is blinding and Berg's vocals are soothing on the ear, fine to listen to in any language. You can wait for the English version but it'll be a while yet and in the meantime, you're missing out on a complete listening pleasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their best, June 28, 2005
This review is from: Hagnesta Hill (Swedish Language) (Audio CD)
I have been listening to the english version of this cd for about a year now and finally got the swedish one today! Maybe it's because I'm so used to the songs in english, but they were just a tad hard for me to get into as much as the english ones. Don't misunderstand me though, I have NO problem listening to Kents music in swedish. In fact, Du & Jag Doden (their latest) has been in my cd player for months! Regardless of the adjustment period, I still love the music and am sure the swedish lyrics will grow on me.

I will say that Kevlarsjal (Kevlar Soul) is actually BETTER in swedish!

For anyone who isn't all that familiar to Kent, I suggest you go out and buy the english versions of this (Hagnesta Hill) and the earlier Isola. Listen to them and love them... eventually you will find yourself wanting everything Kent has ever released regardless of language!

5.0 out of 5 stars absolute class!, June 16, 2000

I bought this album without knowing any of their music, I just knew that 'Musik non stop' was a big hit all over Scandinavia. It has been one of by best buys, and I can't seem to get bored of it. This is just so good, that they deserve world-wide success. Track 7 sounds not unlike a Depeche Mode song, but the music is more comparable to Radiohead in my opinion. There are too many excellent songs to pick out my favourites. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars KENT - Radiohead The Bends days, May 14, 2002

When I first heard about Kent I had heard that they sound like Radiohead during the Bends years. I think they can be compared to Radiohead but not using too many musical effects, just the rocking part. This particular album, I thought was a step up from that last one, Isola. I especially love that they have two versions of the album, Swedish or English! It reminds me of Japanese animation purists and how they complain about english dubs and how japanese with english subtitles are better! Now we get to see two kinds of Kent fans I guess....

I actually own both albums and enjoy listening to both. I really like that the Swedish album has an extra swedish track that is not in english on the english album. If you are a fan of Kent please pick this album up as well as Isola. If you are really feeling frisky pick up the imports. They are that good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kent, Kent, Kent..., December 30, 2001
This review is from: Hagnesta Hill (Swedish Language) (Audio CD)
I think I must confess that I'm a big fan of Kent,I have all records ( Isola and Hagnesta Hill, both in swedish an in english), so you know whhich side I'm on... This album is different from the previous album Isola, it sounds more like the earlier albums Kent and Verkligen (only in swedish, I'm afraid)... I think you can buy this record even if you may not understand swedish, I think they sound better in swedish... I can't think of any group to compare Kent to, they sound like nothing you've ever heard before...

5.0 out of 5 stars The king is dead..., July 14, 2000
This review is from: Hagnesta Hill (Swedish Language) (Audio CD)
This is the second album in English from these Swedish rockers, and it's a more accomplished and lyrically adept an album than anything that has been released this year from a British band. Though I hold my tongue. Radiohead's 'KID A' hasn't come out yet.

The singer sounds like an interesting mix between Andreas Johnson, Fran Healy and Billy Corgan when he whispers. The phrasing of the lyrics is a little poor, however, and thus the singing sounds slow and a little lethargic. Think of Oasis's 'Girl in the Dirty Shirt.'

The tunes on an album are what counts, and gladly, Kent know how to pen a great melody... Music Non Stop is the catchiest thing ever to come from Sweden, and The King is Dead is an opener worthy of comparisons to Planet Telex.

Surprisingly good british music from a swedish band.

I must say that I think it's amazing that this band have reached the USA. I thought it was enough that they were and still are so big here in Sweden, but now people that don't even unerstand what they're singing about listen to them too. And they like them!? Well I guess and hope that it's because of the fact that they don't understand the lyrics, otherwise I don't know what's wrong with the world. The reason to why I would feel better if they don't understand the lyrics is because they are so pretentious!

I think that Kent is one of the most overrated bands ever, and every time I hear Jocke Bergs awful voice it gives me a headache. I would have hoped that they were at least only famous in Sweden, and even though they're not as big in the US as other swedish bands such as The Hives, it's still very embarassing thet some people over there knows who they are.

To make my point about their pretentious lyrics I have taken an extract from their song Gravitation and translated it into english.

"Du fastnar perfekt på min polaroid, du blinkar förskräckt när jag ställer mig bredvid..."

"You stick perfectly on my polaroid, you blink terrified when I'm standing beside..."

If no one thinks this is really bad and pretentious he or she is just as fooled as about half of swedens population.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discover this!!, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Hagnesta Hill (Swedish Language) (Audio CD)
If you haven't heared of them, kent's a band origin from a small town in Sweden. They started out as the guys who sang rock in their motherlanguage and made an enormous succes.

This album is the fourth and also the most complex so for. It's beautiful meanwhile it's sad and dark whilst giving you a smooth discobreak (musik non-stop).

It's a wonderful thing, this record. Buy it and you've made your cd-collection more reliable.

Lovely!

The 4th album from Swedish giants "Kent" is also their best. With tracks like: Musik non stop, Kevlarsjäl, and En himmelsk drog, Kent replies to anyone who's ever doubted - with a fist in their faces ! This album is a knockout and I can easily recommend everybody to get it.. and get it now, don't be last in your neighbourhood to hear Kent-Hagnesta hill
