I'm saving up money to get a new one.

I did not remove the screen from the window because the louvers on the hose connector did not have a screen in it and bugs could fly right into the flex pipe.

Keeping it cool in this 200 sq ft room.

I purchased this unit exactly 30 days ago and I am quite impressed with it. I live in California and the weather here has been crazy. One day the temperature was 98 degrees and it was December!!! This unit cooled my entire bedroom in 30 minutes making the temperature steady at about 67 degrees. I was and still am quite impressed with this unit.

The units arrrived earlier than advertized which was a blessing during the NYC summer heat. The units are not quiet as central air, of course, but what is? They are at least as quiet as window-bangers, a lot better looking and a much easier to remove if you do not need them. In sum, a very good investment.

I live in Northern Minnesota and I only use the air conditioner in the Summer. So I only use the air conditioner about a dozen times a year. This air conditioner was easier to install than windows units I had before. It's nice that I don't have use up a whole window so I can still see out of it. As for this unit, it cools my bedroom just fine. It's a little noisy but nice to have it for the hottest days of the year. I recommend this product If don't need to cool an entire house or don't need to use it very often. For me, it's a great product.

First and foremost, it's frustrating paying for a product when you have to pay about $100 for shipping. At the time of purchase, I paid $210 for the unit and $90 for shipping. On the other hand, your savings buying it on amazon is well over $100 so in the end you are still saving money. This price for this unit hovers around $300 regardless if shipping is free or not - just a FYI to not get frustrated on shipping since the price always remains the same for the most part.

I bought a portable air conditioner instead of a window unit because of two reasons: 1 - my apartment windows will not accomodate a unit and 2 - I didn't want to limit use to one room. I am always hesistant ordering expensive, heavy items online because very often they are packaged and shipped poorly, but this unit came and a very thick box with the appropriate padding and came in perfect condition. Instructions are brief and thorough and everything you need. Very little assembly is required, just hooking up the exhaust tube and knowing how to fit the panel into your window.

There are three modes on this unit: fan, Air conditioning, and dehumidifier. I have not used the dehumidifier and dont plan on it so this is not a feature I can rate. The fan and AC work great. This is a very powerful unit and even the low setting is a bit more than a low setting should be (slight concern if all you need is a very dim breeze, etc). The cooling is instant and works wonders. This being an 8,000BTU unit, it is quite powerful and great for small to medium sized rooms. Another bonus is that the display turns off a minute after you make any changes. I enjoy this feature because the unit will not light up a room when it's dark, which is not the case for other units (AC and heaters alike).

Just bought this as my home office gets the afternoon sun. Really easy to setup. I was worried about the power draw, but even though it's on a circuit with my computer, printer, router, laptop, etc... no tripped fuses yet. Keeping it cool in this 200 sq ft room.

A couple other reviews mentioned this already, but this thing is LOUD. If you've used a dehumidifier before (which this can function as), imagine that sound - more than a typical window air unit.

That's really my only complaint, though. We use it in our second floor bedroom, which is always about 5° warmer then the main floor (only one duct up, and no space for another). I'd previously had a 14,000 BTU window unit in, which did great job cooling the room - much faster than this one, actually - but then made it impossible to get a draft going on those nice nights where it cools down. We only have two windows - one on each end - so a window unit just made a draft impossible.

So for our purposes, this one is great, because it's easy to insert into the window and kick on, and then remove when we want to seal up the room or open the windows.

If you need more distance from the window, by yourself a dryer duct and some aluminum duct tape at any home improvement store, and just tape on the duct to give yourself some more length.

It does what it days. Cools decently, smaller room than what it says it can handle so it's to be expected. However, the unit is NOT worth 300 dollars. The unit is 200 but shipping and handling is an extra 95 dollars. That's insane.

I got this unit to augment the existing A/C in my apt unit (it's centrally controlled and I think it's set a bit higher than what it should be for the brutal DC summers. That's a different review, however.). It does the job fairly well. I don't think it's that noisy, but I'm in a city with enough white noise. Only issue I have is with the hose and the windows. I think most folks probably won't have the issue, but if you have windows which are taller than are wider (and open out), then the inserts which come with the unit probably won't work for you. I had to jury-rig some window coverings which probably reduces the efficiency of the unit, but otherwise the unit is pretty good. I haven't had any complaints given why I purchased it. My unit is 400 sq ft, which is beyond the size for the A/C, but, again, it's augmenting the central A/C.
