A couple points
1.Its not as noisy as i thought it would be 2.I love the fact that i dont have to drain the unit, it has an evaporation feature 3.The window assembly will need a little of your imagination, plus they dont send enough screws so some duct tape will come in handy 4.The remote is a nice touch 5.The timer function is great cause it helps my energy bill Overall its a good product.

I bought this product two days ago. I live in upstate New York and the humidity can be deadly. The first day the remote worked and I was very excited. Yesterday, the remote did not work and today I put new batteries in it. Guess what? It still doesn't work. Without the remote you cannot do anything but turn it on. You can't change the temperature, you can't change the function, you can't change the speed at which the air comes out, you simply cannot do anything. I called the 800 number and was told that the remote was on BACKORDER for 30-90 days! 30-90 days!! Summer and the heat will be over by then! When asked why this was, the answer was that the product needs to be shipped from CHINA and that in order for the 30-90 days to begin, they had to have my proof of purchase first! We all know that large corporations take several days to several weeks to process anything, so to add this on top of the fact it takes that long makes me never want to purchase another Haier product again. My suggestion is that you do the same with customer service like this.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!! My unit arrived broken. Haier customer service was rude & obnoxious. They were completely unapologetic & seemed to go out of their way to be UNHELPFUL. When I finally bullied them into action, they wanted a full week to send out a service man who may or may not have been able to fix it. I spoke to both customer service and corporate, both were extremely rude and entirely useless. What's more, neither one had the decency to so much as apologize. NEVER AGAIN.
This was every internet buyer's nightmare!

Now that it is 95 degrees for the last 3 days I am compelled to write this review. I, like the others that have reviewed this product, received one good day of service from this $200 boat-anchor. The remote ceased controlling the unit on the second day of operation. With no other control pad, it is completely useless. Same experience with customer service. I dont know how this company stays in business. I guess they just pump out the minimum amount of units that actually work to keep them afloat and screw the rest.
Terrible.

First Impressions good so far!,
This review is from: Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control (Kitchen)
Well, I have Anderson casement windows, so I have this unit hooked up to my upstairs bedroom in which I installed a dryer vent in the bottom, corner of the room for easy removal of the warm exhaust, without the unsightly supplied adapter for the window and then how do you seal the rest of the open window...plexiglass??. The only problem was the dryer vent is 4" and the supplied exhaust hose is 5", so your going to need duct tape if this is your approach too- this unit is actually replacing another unit that had a 4" hose. Anyway, not having to remove the water is awesome, as it was previously a complete PITA! It cools fairly well and blows strong, but a 9k unit would do a better job for sure as the room is approx 13x18 with a small connecting bathroom that then leads into a 12x12 room, I guess that asking alot for a 7k unit. I picked this unit up for $125, clearanced at my local supermarket, so it was well worth it. Mine came with 2 remotes? I don't know if it was just luck? Also, the unit can do double duty as a 70 pint dehumidifier, that's about as good as any humidifier that I know of gets, but YOU'RE going to have to figure out how it drains all that water! BTW the 9k unit has gotten excellent reviews, so I was surprised that this one has gotten mediocre one, but if you look shipping damage is not the fault of this unit's manufacturer. Haier warranty's this unit's components for 5 years, 1 year labor. Hope this helps someone out there?

VERY BAD packaging, but works nice!,

This is the third portable A/C I've had, so I knew a lot of what to expect. Pretty noisy, yeah. Was planning on not using the remote, but the first reviewer was right, it's required! I've got it set nice & low, in case the remote breaks!
The worst part is the packaging! There is NO BOTTOM to the box, just a piece of styrofoam secured by plastic straps! UPS damaged the package so bad that they sent it back before I ever saw it. Had to wait another 10 days for J&R to ship another one. Second one arrived and UPS had inverted the box, otherwise the styrofoam would have fallen out the bottom between the straps, because it was in pieces! But it works! Puts out good cold air. Shoots it off to the side, for some reason, you have to turn the unit to get the air where you want it.

Useless AC. Worst purchase I ever made... please don't buy this or similar units!,

I bought what seems like the same product from Walmart, except mine is white. I'm posting this to warn other people that these types of AC's just don't work! Yes it emits cold air, but it does not "cool" my (small) apartment, so it is useless. How is this possible? Because the exhaust air that gets blown out the window through the hose draws outdoor air in elsewhere in my place (just like how a window fan works). So the net cooling benefit of this AC is extremely small.
I replaced this with a 5000BTU window unit and was amazed how much better it worked. It keeps the apartment cool and uses less than HALF the electricity as the portable (as I verified with a "wattmeter"). I don't know exactly what the window units do differently to avoid sucking in air (google around for the technical details). But single hose portable AC's are intrinsically garbage. I've had this unit for 3 years and I was bewildered why it could not get the indoor temp more than a few degrees colder than the outdoor temp. It only felt cool in front of the AC, but the rest of the (small) apartment seemed as hot as outside. At first I thought I just didn't buy a powerful enough unit for my apartment size. So I began starting up the unit at 5am on forecasted hot days, to give it a head start. Otherwise it could not keep up. Finally one day I was cleaning the dust off the fan in the ceiling of my bathroom and bam, I felt a strong draft of hot air coming through. So I blocked the vent and hot air started coming through the gas heater vent in the other room. I eventually figured out the AC was at fault. (By the way it's not a matter of patching up the "holes"... it's impossible to completely seal a home shut and if you did, the pressure differential would get so large that the AC could no longer exhaust air... and you might suffocate). This has honestly been the worst purchase of my life. It cost twice as much as an equivalent BTU window unit, uses about twice as much electricity, takes up a ton of floor space, oh and by the way, it doesn't cool my place. At over 1000 watts, this thing costs ~20 cents an hour to run. I'm disgusted to think back to all the days when I'd run this thing from ~5am to 10pm just to keep my room marginally livable. Add that up over three summers and yea, it has wasted far more than the initial $300 purchase price. I can't think of any real advantage of a portable AC over a window unit. It blocks less of your window than a window unit but the amount of floor space it takes up far outweighs that. If you really wanted one that you could wheel back and forth between two rooms, why not get two window units? The initial cost is the same and you'll spend less in electricity. The only way I can think a portable unit would not be a complete waste is if a) you don't pay for your utilities AND b) the location where the hot air leaks back in is not in the area you're trying to cool. Please just buy a window unit.

I'm going into my second year with my air conditioner and it performs pretty well. The unit certainly isn't taxed by the Northwest climate, but on hot days it definitely drops the temperature to bearable levels in my south-facing office.
I'd love to have a slightly longer exhaust hose - no matter what room I put it in, I always need another foot to angle the unit the way I want it. Likes: * Rolls around with ease * Cools quickly and consistently * Comes with 2 remotes * The output can be adjusted to point straight up or down to around 45 degrees from the ceiling * Fan and dehumidify modes are a nice plus, even if nobody ever uses them. * Intake filter is easy to remove and clean Hates: * Unusable without a remote * It's very noisy. You can only realistically concentrate when it's at the lowest setting. The medium and high fan speeds are awful. * Intake filter is bloody impossible to replace after you remove and clean it.... * This is an ugly air conditioner. The rectangular shape and flat top are great for storing it, but why does it have to look like a Doctor Who prop from the 60's? |
