Good value and a bonus feature,

This review is from: Haier DVD50 Compact DVD Player (Electronics)
Though the specifications listed here do not indicate it, the box for the Haier DVD50 which I got says it supports "MPEG4." When I got it, I found that the DVD player supports optical outputs, composite, RGB, and S-Video outputs. I tested it with a DVD which had DivX files in ISO format, and it worked perfectly. Considering the fact that I got it for $29.99, I consider this to be an impressive value.
This is an excellent inexpensive DVD for a standard definition television.

A REGION-FREE PLAYER!!!,

This review is from: Haier DVD50 Compact DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a small, compact DVD player that is very unassuming as it appears cheap and paltry but boy does it pack a punch because it's region-free! Many vendors will sell region-free DVD players up to 4X as much as this costs and even those were probably achieved with button combination hacks, but this player is region-free right out of the box! I've played Region 1, 2 & 3 DVDs on it as well as DVD-Rs, DVD+Rs and even Dual Layer DVDs. This player seems to take everything I throw at it.
The onscreen setup and menus are very well organized and easy to understand but the remote is a little sluggish as it may not immediately respond to your button presses which you have to do more than once and forcefully, at that. I was impressed with the fact that it recognized the connections I hooked up to it, component video cables and a coaxial audio cable, to which it played it effortlessly without the need to select "progressive scan" and "RAW output" from the menu like many other DVD players require you to do. I played a Region 2 PAL DVD from the U.K. and I was shocked that I didn't have to switch the broadcast on the remote from NTSC to PAL. It automatically adjusted itself to the digital media that was inserted in the drive! This is a fantastic DVD player for less than it costs for a family trip to the movies and you can pretty much place it anywhere next to your TV as it's small enough to fit in any nook or cranny you have available. What are you waiting for? Buy it already and enjoy those hard to find DVDs from other countries that you used to be barred from viewing!
