Absolutely awful product, 2 bad in one month,
By
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
I bought two of these from a local store for two separate houses. After one week one of them said "lo" which meant the humidity was below 35%. I knew it wasn't so I turned it to just its "on" mode. It ran and started collecting water. Within one week (of the 1 hr on/1 hr off mode) it started smoking and smelling like another reviewer mentioned. The other one that I bought started to exhibit the same "lo" issue even though a humidity gauge that I had said it was 65%. I returned both of them and will never purchase another Haier product again. Also, the manual contained so many spelling and other grammatical errors, that it it made it hard to read. Junk, total junk. Haier should be ashamed of themselves.

Lasted 3 weeks,
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
I purchased this item at an electronics store. It seemed to work fine, although it was somewhat noisy. The tank was plenty large enough, any larger and it would have been difficult to carry. The problem occurred three weeks after purchase. I walked into the basement and noticed a strong smell that caused me to think there was some electrical wires burning. I went to the machine and turned it off. It immediately started hissing and smoked rolled out the back of the machine, even after I unplugged it. When I took it back to the store, they couldn't believe how bad it smelled! They returned my money without hesitation.

Absolute waste of money - Worst brand of products,

I wish I had read all the negative reviews this company gets before wasting my money and time. The first unit worked for about 5 months, then it simply stopped gathering water. The unit looked like it was working, so I did not notice the problem right away, until I checked the the bucket which was dry as a bone. Tried all kinds of things to no avail. Contacted customer service to get a replacement, and the guy on the phone did not even let me finish describing the problem... He already knew the unit was broken and proceeded to give me instructions for getting a replacement. He totally sounded like he had given the same instructions hundreds of times. I was blown away when he told me they did not want me to send the defective unit back. All I needed to do was to cut off about 8" from the power cord and mail it, along with my receipt and a check for $14 to cover the shipping of a refurbished replacement unit. They consider the units basically disposable and not worth shipping back.
The replacement unit arrived about a month later and it worked fine... for about two months. Then it did the same exact thing as the previous one, and a few days later the fan started making a loud noise. Now I'm out of warranty and have two huge paper weights waiting to be taken to the dump. But I have learned one thing... Never again buy a Haier product!

Poor quality,
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
This is a video of my unboxing of the dehumidifier and I was very unhappy with what I saw. It is running okay so far, but wonder if the rest of the machine has the same poor quality. I will not be buying any other Haier products.

I will let the accounts of the many dissatisfied Haier victims stand for themselves. Yes, haier produces junk. I will add this; they don't honor their warranty obligations, and if their customer service weren't a run-around, it would be non-existent. My Haier dehumidifirer died before its warranty period was up, and I followed Haier's instructions for intiating a warranty replacement. It has been a month since they received the package of items they requested, and they still haven't shipped a new unit. Delay, "escalation", delay, "escalation to corporate", etc., and still no action. Don't buy Haier

Haier is lower,
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
I purchased the HD456E for the basement...it worked for two months during out visit here last year but then quit this year. Still seemed to run, with lights and noise but in fact it was collecting no water and we were collecting a lot of humidity and mold in our summer home basement in Wisconsin. I called for warranty only to be advised that since it was a year old they would be happy to pony up some miserable parts but that I would have to pay for the service ie there is in effect no warranty because the cost of service is likely to be greater than the cost of replacement. SO no more Haier of any sort for me. Its just a junk product.

Not energy efficient,
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
This unit is very inefficient in dehumidifying the air. I did a comparison study with a 35-pint Kenmore brand humidifier, borrowed from a friend, to test how well it compares to this Haier humidifier. To my surprise, the Kenmore humidifier was able to reduce the humidity from 65% to 50% in an hr as opposed to 3 hrs on this Haier brand. It is interesting that this unit is labeled Energy Star, when it is not. At 740 Watts/hr for 3 hrs, this unit burned about 2220 watts. The US Energy Department needs to have a tight quality control on companies so only the true energy efficient products can have that energy star label. This product shows Haier's poor quality control program and misleading marketing tactics.

looks like amcor,
By planettyoz (wynnewood, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
this looks exactly!!! like the amcor i purchased 6/08 which now doesn't work at all
i forgot to add in my review of the amcor that u can't use the handle on the bucket b/c it is cheap plastic and comes right off when the bucket is full of water, thus spilling all the water. it is almost impossible to empty it without spilling a lot of water. besides being noisy, it's also very hot-made the basement a good 10 degrees hotter which, when it's already 90 and up outside, is not helpful. truly, this unit is identical to the amcor-even the filter. must be the same company in China makes it and they put different labels on it. also, when it quit working, it had a smell as if something was burning so we quickly unplugged it. very noisy

My older Haier dehumidifier works great!,
By
This review is from: HAIER 45pt Dehumidifier - HD456E (Kitchen)
I am sorry to see all of the unsatisfactory reviews of the Haier dehumidifiers. I have an older squared off model in my bathroom at our cabin. I'm going to have to find the model # and fill it in here. It looks most similar to the AHD25 that someone is trying to sell on eBay on Monday, August 24, 2009. I can't tell you the model # right now because I'm not at that location. Man, if my Haier is only a 25 pint dehumidifier and works so well, I am just amazed.
MY Haier works so great--I was shocked to see these bad reviews. It's almost like they have adopted a new model line which pretty much resembles the Whirlpool AD40USL1 dehumidifiers, which I have low respect for. MY Haier is actually turned back-to-front in my situation, with the plastic mesh filter clearly accessible directly in front, and the squared off water box protruding out from the bottom, from which I have connected a clear plastic hose that drains into my shower. I had to raise the dehumidifier up on pieces of 4x4 to allow the water to drain over the lip of the shower pan. I wash off the filter several times a summer, wash out the water box at least once a year to keep the mold from growing (add a little bleach to the water keep it clean), and the darn thing just keeps on sucking the air dry. Obviously, I have an older model. But this one works so well! "Too" well, perhaps. The small bathroom gets a bit hot from the dry exhaust air, and my terry cloth towels used in my morning shower are "crispy" dry by lunch time. We have had this dehumidifier for at least five years (if not seven or ten, I can't remember). Like a Timex, "It takes a licking, and keeps on ticking!" Guess I wish they made more of them this way! |
