5.0 out of 5 stars Great forward sound and no more loud commercials, March 2, 2011

I purchased this tv for my elderly parents. I searched forever for a tv with the speaker that points toward the people watching--the vast majority of flat screens have speakers on the back/sides that point down. My dad is really getting hard of hearing and would turn up the volume so loud on his old tube tv that when I spoke to mom on the phone I could barely hear her over the tv in the background. Since they got the tv, I can't hear the tv at all in the background during phone calls. Mom is quite happy.

They have their tv hooked up to a standard definition Directv box and the picture is awesome. They also love the fact that it has automatic commercial volume leveling, meaning that commercials play at the same volume as whatever show you are watching--no more getting blasted out of the room when commercials come on. They turn the tv on with the tv remote, and then use the Directv remote control for everything else. Mom says that they never touch the volume anymore. So far we have been unable to find the correct Haier remote code that works with their Directv remote, so we'll probably have to do the whole remote code search thing.

While I wouldn't buy this tv for myself, it is working perfectly for my parents. If you know someone that is hard of hearing and they want a flat screen tv, this is definitely the one.

Bought this set originally for my home office to hang on the wall. Looked decent there, good picture and good on board tuner. Is a good entry level HD TV. Good value for the price.

Excellent picture quality. Easy setup and a variety of inputs for hooking up to a VCR and/or DVD player.
USB port an added bonus. Can even be used as a computer monitor. What more can one want for the price?

I was in need of a HDTV at a reasonable price and found this one at Amazon for $249 w/free shipping. I figured it was too good of a deal to pass up. The tv arrived and was simple to set up and it gives you a few options to adjust the colors to get it just right. The picture quality is good and clear. The build in sound does the job as well. To be honest for $249 it is much better than I expected. People ask what the heck is a Haier! Don't worry, this is a quality tv for the price and I would buy another if I needed one.

Had my doubts about the TV prior to buying it but once I hooked it up to a HD feed the picture was really good. The menu was quick and responsive unlike some other brand TV's I've had in the past.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Computer monitor, October 31, 2011
This review is from: Haier HL32D2 32-Inch D Series LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I was planning to see what I could get in a 32" on this Black Friday for a computer monitor. I just happened to stop into a store to see what prices the Colby was selling for since I seen them before, and knew they could had a VGA input. I saw this on sale as a clearance/display model, and it was below what was going to be my Black Friday cut-off price. I even got more of a discount because it was their last one.

I have had a bought the last of clearance/display models before, and I have had only a 50% satisfaction record between those other two items So, I did get an extended 3 year warranty on this Haier because of the unpleasant experience with a clearance/display model netbook. Just from reading other reviews on the Internet about Haier HDTVs, this could be a very wise decision.

I used HDMI to hook this up to my computer. I didn't have to make any adjustments to the picture. One could say it worked right out of the box, if I had a box for it that is. I wanted a monitor that I didn't have to have my nose against it, to see every detail. This TV/monitor has fit the bill --if it was any bigger I wouldn't have been able to fit it on my desk. You can be several feet away from it and see everything very well This is one display unit because of its size you don't want your nose against it anyway.

So, it is making an excellent computer monitor. I have tried out the t.v. portion, the sensitivity of the tuner, seems to be the same as any other I have. The audio system in it has enough power that you can hear easily, though not from what I can hear, one would not call it hi-fi. Since I use the t.v. dongle and audio system on my computer this is just an interesting side note for me, but it's fine that I can use it as a standalone t.v., if it came to that. It has worked well viewing standard video DVDs, you-tube, streaming video, etc.

The only grip I have, and it really isn't one, is as I told the salesman as he was carrying it out to my car, He sure ruined my Black Friday plans, it looks like I'm going to sleep in for this Black Friday.
