This 19in set with the DVD is wonderful for a small area. You have a great picture and in addition no additional hook-ups for a DVD. The images are clear and the set is already equipped for the change to digital in 2009. I find it appropriate for a kids dorm, a senior's room, etc. I highly recommend it. Could never go wrong with this brand.

Haier HLC19R 19-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/DVD CombinationThis is a great tv. I bought it for my bedroom. It doesn't swivel, but it's only a 19 inch, so it's not for a big room. The color is vivid and the settings are perfect right out of the box. Also, it has a very clean looking style. There's nothing around the border to distract your attention. It's sleek and all black. You can't go wrong with this tv.

I love the convenience of this machine! We have it at my husband's office for the kids to watch while we work. It's great! The only thing that I dont like is that the DVD player portion is much touchier than the one we have at home. It will freeze and turn off (I believe this is either because it is overheating, or because the disks have scratches... but they are disks that play fine at home). I would buy this same type of product again, but I would try a different brand next time.

Pros:

*Good picture quality
*Good sound quality
*Very good value for the money
*Has a DVD player
*Compact, so it fits almost anywhere.
*Lightweight

Cons:

*As with all LCDs, you have to have this TV right in front of you at twelve o'clock and at eye level to see the picture properly. With the older TVs, of course, you could see it from pretty much anywhere in the room. So if you're replacing one of those with an LCD and your cable wire is in an elevated or off-center position in respect to where you will be sitting to the LCD, and you're replacing an older TV, this will dampen your viewing experience.

*(minor) Unusual remote. This remote is different from the many universal remotes I've used. Things are in unusual places and words you thought of as being the same from other universal remotes have separate keys. If you like intuitive equipment, this is a minor inconvenience.

*(minor) Tech-savvy issue: Don't shut the TV off before setting up the wizard that appears when you first turn it on unless you know how to find the channel scan functions and what have you manually. (It's under menu.) The wizard won't reappear when you turn the TV on again, even if you never set it up.

* Some DVD player quirks. While watching a DVD I tried to turn up the volume but hit the channel button instead. I discovered I had turned off the DVD with that one little faux pas and when I went back to play, the DVD started all over again. Pain in the kiester to have to go to scene selection and try to sort out where we were. If you're very, very careful about what you press, this might end up being a good thing if you want to switch from DVD to TV without having to hit a function button.

Nutshell: We got a very good value for a lightweight LCD with DVD; we can deal with the quirks.

I picked this product because of its good reviews and features. It arrived timely in apparently new condition, although the DVD player did not work properly--after playing any number of new and used DVD brand discs for about 10 minutes it would make a snapping sound and shut the power off. Then if the set was turned back on and disc was restarted it played properly. The amazon vendor Computer Brain promised to mail me a new set as soon as I sent in a tracking number for shipping the item back. 10 days later I had heard and received nothing and when I wrote I was told it was on back order. They estimated a new set would be shipped by 2/18/09 or I could have a refund. I asked for a certain shipping date by 2/20/09 or a refund confirmation. It is now 2/28/09 and again I have gotten no new set shipped and no refund or communication. I cannot recommend purchasing the Haier set or the vendor Computer Brain. If I get a prompt refund or a working set I might say otherwise--I liked the set when it was working. The only problem was the highest volume setting was still quite low to hear.

I bought this for my bedroom. It's nice and compact. The sound is good. You have a few choices on the type of sound you want. The picture is excellent. You can also tip the screen up or down depending on the angle you want.
My only beef is, when you turn it on, it takes about 2 extra seconds to realize its on. the red light turns to green. It makes you think you missed the button. No big deal really.

Awesome tv/dvd combo. Perfect for the bedroom...sleek and unimposing. Menus are a little tricky to navigate at first, but you only need to get into them for fine tuning of what channels you would like displayed, adjusting the volume for certain channels, etc. Love it!

It isn't a bad TV it is just that I didn't realize getting a TV with a DVD player inside was not a good idea. There are, evidently, two reasons you should buy the components separate; 1. if the DVD dies you are stuck with a set that has a broken DVD player. Fixing it is more expensive then buying a new one. 2. The sound quality is drastically reduced; this is the biggest reason for not buying a combination set.

Since, I purchased another TV and separate DVD player and the sound quality is so much better. I had to buy a set of speakers to attach to this TV because the sound was so bad. It sounds like you are in a can.
