Amazon.com Review

Great as a handsome starter unit or as a specialty cellar, this Haier designer wine cooler provides easily tailored quarters for up to 24 bottles at a time. Engineered with an electronic thermostat, the cellar includes automatic settings for reds and whites, as well as a fully adjustable temperature range of 39 to 65 degrees F. The LED readout shows both the current internal temperature and the programmed temperature, for quick and simple monitoring. Designed to cradle the bottles, the five chrome racks slide out for easy access. The interior lighting is soft and unobtrusive, and the glass door features a heavy-duty brushed metal handle. Like Haier's other cellars, this unit is CFC-free. --Emily Bedard

2.0 out of 5 stars Fine if you're not too fussy, September 11, 2003

Becoming interested in wine ? Have some better bottles that need to last through 90 degree plus summers ? This may be the product for you. It's inexpensive compared to many similar products and nice-looking. However if you are approaching "wine geek" status this may not be for you. First of all, when we assembled the door there was a 1/8 inch gap between the door and the unit leaving just enough air space to let summer humidity in. Fortunately we were able to adjust the door, but no thanks to the instruction manual.

Also, the temperature setting fluctuates on a daily basis probably too much for someone who is very concerned about a constant and exact temperature. There is also no humidity setting.

One other caution: to actually hold 24 bottles, you'll have to do some creative bottle arranging. Many wine experts say one should buy the largest capacity one should afford. With that said, you might want to spring for at least a 30 bottle capacity if you think you'll be collecting in the future.

For us, the unit is fine. If this model at this price had been unavailable, I probably would not have bought one at all. So, as an entry level wine cellar it is OK.

Well after looking and looking at all the different brands of wine coolers I decided on Haier. This 24 bottle wince cooler is the perfect size for the average wine drinker. It looks great in your kitchen and dosn't take up a lot of room and holds 24 bottles. The digital temp controls are very accurate and easy to use. I even store my cigars on the top shelf to keep them from drying out. Best of all every once in a while amazon.com will put this one on sale.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking - poorly shipped - still trying to get it to work, December 27, 2009

I received this box a couple weeks before x-mas as a present for someone who enjoys wine. So far I've had nothing but problems with it and it still won't work. I'm assuming I received a lemon, or this would receive one star. If I can get it to work in the next day or so I won't return it - I really don't want to have to return an 80lbs fridge, especially since I had to cut up the box to remove it (since you can't tip it on its' side and I was doing this all alone).

First of all - just a small issue - the little plastic lever that hits the light switch to turn the light off was snapped in half. Some Gorilla glue fixed that and it's no longer an issue, but it looks stupid.

Second - There was a good 1/4 inch gap between the door gasket and the fridge. This is on the hinge side. I have tried to adjust it, but there's still probably 1/16 inches between the gasket and the door on the very bottom. As small as the gap is, this is no good. A fridge of this type needs a tight seal. I may caulk it, but I don't want this fridge to look like junk, and I really don't like needing to rig a brand new device just so that it will work.

Currently it holds a temperature of about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Nice, huh? Much too hot for any type of wine. The instruction manual is of no help. I have cleaned it thoroughly per the instruction manual. I'm very disappointed with this fridge. I feel I'm being generous with my rating.
