4.0 out of 5 stars Great little cellar
This wine cellar is a great value with decent capacity. It's also pretty quiet. My only complaint is that the warmest temperature setting is 53-57 degrees F. Red wine needs to be stored at 60 F. For reds, skip this model and get one with the digital thermostat.

1.0 out of 5 stars 4 arrived w/ shipping damage
Like others, I went through returns/exchanges of this cooler, due to damage acquired during shipping. Amazon finally gave up and gave me a refund, after 4 attempts. The shipping box is composed of just too thin of a cardboard (and they only cover the glass door with a sheet of styrofoam no more than 0.25 inches thick). I noticed that each replacement shipment (sent via...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, July 15, 2005

I bought this as an overflow unit. I primarilly am using it to store reds that will mature in 5-8 years. I know the manual says that 57* is the top temperature setting, but I have a thermometer/hygrometer that I placed inside the unit and it has read 59* since the day I plugged it in.

My only complaint is the size. 24 bottles is a stretch- especially if you keep slightly odd-shaped bottles such as are common with many pinot noirs. I have 18-20 bottles in mine and I would need to grease the shelves to squeeze any more in.

So if you are looking for value, this is a good smaller unit. I would recommend spending just a tad more on the slightly larger units with digital thermostat and better-designed shelving, but this one certainly isn't junk.

The shipping box is composed of just too thin of a cardboard (and they only cover the glass door with a sheet of styrofoam no more than 0.25 inches thick). I noticed that each replacement shipment (sent via UPS air) arrived in worse shape than the original (which was shipped via ground). Luckily for me, I have a concierge that dealt with the UPS carrier pickups (of the damaged returns) and dropoffs (for the replacements). Possibly better off dealing locally, where you can actually inspect the item before taking it home.

I was very pleased to find this item at this price. It arrived and had quite a few damages from shipping. Okay... Amazon has an easy return policy and we returned it and received the replacement very quickly. It also arrived damaged. This time a piece of plastic on the door frame corner had been broken off. We decided to keep it anyway and just glue the piece back on (the piece was there, just broken off.) We did not want to be in an endless cycle of returning damaged wine coolers! These damages occurred because the item is shipped in a cardboard box not adequate to the task. The item itself is great - and at a very nice price... Having it delivered damaged, twice, is not great. Perhaps if the item was bubble wrapped before being packaged it could reach its destinations intact.

4.0 out of 5 stars Money well spent, July 19, 2006

This is my 2nd beverage cooler, I have a Marvel that is built-in and cost about $1,400 it is in my kitchen so it really needed to be of a matching quality to the rest of the appliances. The Haier Wine Cooler is under my Bar for less than $200 with delivery it works great. No bells and whistles, but it is quiet and works well. I will say that I had to return the first one because a plastic corner was broken due to poor packaging. Amazon shipped me out a new one in days so it was only a minor inconvenience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate, January 18, 2007

I agree with the other reviews that state the packaging was lacking. It is a miracle that the unit was not damaged during shipping. Amazon should really insist that the packaging improve if they want to continue to sell this unit.

Pros:
It is a nice looking unit and you can switch the door from left to right if you need to which is nice.

Cons:
It is rather noisy and the shelf arrangement could be better.
The tempature control is in the rear of the unit, so if you plan on putting this unit anywhere that prevents easy access to the back, you have to set the temp and just live with it.

It also would be nice to have a thermometer included. Everyone is going to go out and purchase one, so why not just included it? I spent more in gas driving to the store to get one then I did on the actual thermometer.
