1.0 out of 5 stars So disappointed, even after a replacement sent, July 28, 2009

R&B (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Haier HVTB40DPABS 40-Bottle Thermal-Electric Dual-Zone Wine Cellar (Kitchen)
My husband & I got this cooler as a Christmas gift for ourselves. It is a nice looking unit that has dual cooling zones. At first, it cooled the two seperate zones wonderfully. We were very happy with it. At exactly 3 months, it stopped cooling; well, actually everthing just stopped.
We went through the channels of repair. Guy came out, ordered a part, came back, but said what they shipped wasn't going to work. He called Haier who stated that there was no longer a part, a cooling part, to replace on this unit. After we cut off half the cord & peeled off the determined sticker on back of unit, we mailed it all in, along with receipt and earlier repair number, etc.
It took a bit of patience (1 1/2 - 2 months from beginning to end), BUT a 2nd, new wine cooler was shipped to our home. We were very happy to see that Haier actually followed through!
Unfortunately, although it runs, it will not cool either section below 58 degrees. We personally like our wines chilled a bit more. It is summer here now & we keep our home temp at 77-78 degrees, but we still expect the cooler to be able to cool to the recommended 47-52 degrees. Maybe it will do better when winter arrives & we knock our house temp down to 68, but still.... Just seems like a waste of money & something else to take up space.
We are both just very disappointed. Not sure that we want to go thru the whole replacement process again (or if they will even honor it twice). Seeing that other reviewers are less than satisfied also, just avoid this model altogether.

1.0 out of 5 stars Haier wine storage unit not recommended, July 22, 2009
This review is from: Haier HVTB40DPABS 40-Bottle Thermal-Electric Dual-Zone Wine Cellar (Kitchen)
I have owned this wine storage unit for several months now. I live in Sacramento Ca. My first storage unit was a Magic Chef, and that unit was able to keep the wine at a constant 55 degrees. When I first set up the Haier unit in my house it was able to maintain a constant 58 degrees... but that was in the spring with indoor temperatures of around 72 degrees. Now that we are in the midst of a Sacramento summer when I keep the house at 78-80 degrees, the Haier runs continuously and fluctuates between 61 and 63 degrees, despite the thermostat being set to 58 degrees. Apparently the unit cannot maintain a temperature that has a differential of greater than about 18 degrees from ambient room temperature. If you keep your house at or below about 72 degrees this unit will work for you. It is quiet, sleek and attractive. I found the workmanship and materials to be as good or better than competing brands of the same price. My only regret is that it cannot maintain 55 degrees in a typical room temperature in central California.

1.0 out of 5 stars C Diaz, July 28, 2009
This review is from: Haier HVTB40DPABS 40-Bottle Thermal-Electric Dual-Zone Wine Cellar (Kitchen)
We purchased this product through Amazon and we have had nothing but problems since. The wine cooler arrived missing one of the leveling legs. Once we had it set up the bottom portion would not cool. We contacted the manufacturer and they sent out a service man and he determined it could not be repaired. We contacted Haier and we were told to clip so much of the electrical cord and peal the stickers off the back and send these items to Haier certified mail. Once they receive it they will ship us a new machine. We have now found out they won't be replacing it and are now offering us a refund excluding our original shipping costs. I will never purchase another Haier product since they are not able to stand behind their products.

1.0 out of 5 stars tread carefully, June 4, 2009

Amazon got themselves into a pickle in deciding to distribute this pruduct, and Haier has damaged their reputation by making it.

The wine coolers are cheaply constructed the minute you look at them and set them up. Then, on the most important feature of a cooler - maintaining constant temperature - they fail miserably. Up and down by 6-10 degrees is unacceptable even if the units were free, because they will destroy $25,000 worth of collectable wines. I am non-plussed that Haier would make something like this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unit broke, no support from Haier, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Haier HVTB40DPABS 40-Bottle Thermal-Electric Dual-Zone Wine Cellar (Kitchen)
I bought this unit and the first thing that I noticed was that I could not get the smell of plastic out. After I got used to that, the unit began emitting a very loud noise. When I called Haier, it took them 4 days to get back to me. They finally said that if it wasn't the compressor, they wouldn't stand behind it. When I reminded them that the unit is thermoelectric and has no compressor, the agent literally said that was great for them since they didn't have to stand behind it. I will never buy anything from Haier again.

Under warranty and broken foer the past 4 months. Warranty service undable to fix after 5 service calls. Haier wants a sixth service call. Your time is not worth anything to them as the service calls are 4 hour windows (2 of 5 service calls ended up outside of the 4 hours window). Avoid Haier at all costs! Not worth the price!!!

I just spend an hour tearing apart this HVTB40DPABS MODEL looking for a reason as to why it won't cool as advertised. As far as my wife and I are concerned, this $275 investment was a total loss writeoff, don't risk spoiling your expensive wines.

DO NOT PURCHASE! Read all of the reviews, stay away from this Made in China product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Product, January 19, 2011

Within 6 months of using this product, the unit stopped holding its temperature, eventually being over 10 degrees higher than the thermostat. Then the product stopped working altogether with something burning out on the control board. Haier's customer service was useless - when I asked them for a repair center in my area, I was told to Google it. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of this product. Based on my experience and those of the other reviewers, I would avoid all Haier products.

1.0 out of 5 stars Haier Is Creating a Horrible Reputation, April 17, 2010
This review is from: Haier HVTB40DPABS 40-Bottle Thermal-Electric Dual-Zone Wine Cellar (Kitchen)
I bought this wine cellar as a gift 2 years ago. It is already having trouble maintaining the wine temperature. On top of that, the service at Haier is really unprofessional. Their products start having issues within a year just in time for the warranty to expire. I called about getting serviced and they referred me to All-State Appliance Service that basically ripped us off and gave us the run around. They vacuumed out the back of the fridge and charged us $180. BIG DEAL! I could have done that myself. It did not fix the problem and then the company decided to give us the run around about giving us our money back. Now I am trying to locate parts and they are all sold out. What now? Landfill probably!
