Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Haier Ventless Washer / Dryer Combo (HWD1600) is the compact laundry solution for small spaces that requires no venting, making it the perfect companion for small homes, apartments, cabins, RVs and boats. This Haier washer dryer combo washes and dries clothing in a single stainless steel tub. Choose from eleven (11) fabric care wash cycles and (4) dry settings. The moisture is condensed and released into your sink's drain rather than through a hot vent.

Product Description

HWD1600 1.8 cu. ft. Combination High-Efficiency Washer and Ventless Dryer

Wash and dry the laundry all in one step with this 1.8 cu. ft. Combination High-Efficiency Washer and Ventless Dryer. This washer/dryer combo saves space and effort by eliminating the need to switch clothes from one machine to another. The high efficiency wash system uses less water and energy than a traditional agitator washer, and the condenser dryer does not require venting to the outside of the home, so the unit can be conveniently set up and used in a closet or other enclosed space and is great for apartment living in cases where venting is not an option. 6 cycle selections, 4 adjustable spin speeds, and 4 wash/rinse temperature settings let you customize for clean, dry laundry with less work.

Number 1

Euromonitor International named Haier the number one laundry brand in the world

Haier focuses on making the laundry experience easier and better than ever before. With more options, features and energy and water saving settings, Haier knows that not every load is created equal. From full size, extra large capacity drums, to space-saving portable laundry, Haier has the washer and dryer to meet your needs.

High Efficiency

The front-load wash system in the Combination High-Efficiency Washer and Ventless Dryer uses a tumbling wash action that requires significantly less water that a traditional top-load agitator washer, and effectively cleans clothes without the harsh effects that an agitator can have. Because the tumbling action produces a greater amount of suds, HE detergent is recommended for use. HE detergents are formulated to create fewer suds and disperse quickly in the rinse cycle.

Multifaceted and Powerful

This combo unit can handle wash loads of up to 13 lbs. and dry up to 6.6 lbs. of laundry in a durable, corrosion-resistant 1.8 cu. ft. capacity stainless steel drum. The outside of the unit features a large front glass viewing window, and easy-to-use electronic button controls with cycle selector dial and LCD display. The electronic control LCD display clearly shows remaining time and cycle progress, as well as current selections for wash cycle, dry cycle, spin speed, and temperature. The Dry button sets up the unit to automatically start drying when the wash cycle ends, or you can choose to start the dry cycle manually.

Options

This unit features 6 fabric care wash cycles, with 4 Wash/Rinse temperatures and Spin Speeds. These, along with an Auto Dry option and 2 timed dry cycles offer plenty of options to help you create the best wash/dry program for your everyday laundry needs as well as loads that need extra care. The controls also include additional convenience settings like Extra Rinse, Pre-wash, and Delay Start, which gives you the option to load the machine and set the cycle to start later anytime within a 24 hour period, so your clothes are ready when you are.

We called Haier, who sent a service guy over.

Even if the replacement washer/dryer arrives tomorrow and works perfectly for the next decade, I will NEVER purchase any of your products again.

Then it started taking longer and longer to dry the clothes.

This is a letter that I sent to Haier detailing our customer service issue. Feel free to read before making your purchase. Please note, I adore the concept of a washer/dryer. When the product worked, it was terrific. We are a family of 4. If we can get a refund, we plan to purchase a similar model from another company.

I am writing to you in order to clearly express my dissatisfaction with both your product and your customer service.

My husband and I purchased the HWD1600Washer/Dryer combo on 2/2/12. We made the purchase through Newegg.com. The item was brand new. It cost, before tax, $739.99. We also purchased Newegg.com's 2 year Service Plan for $69.99.

The product arrived a week later - approximately on 2/8/12. Unfortunately, the washer/dryer combo arrived not working. Under Haier's manufacturer's warranty, a service technician was sent out on 2/16/12 - a full week later. The technician discovered that the blower and heater duct was not sealed which was causing water to leak all over our floor. He sealed the duct that day.

The product worked well until 4/12/12. While doing a load, "Error 13" and "Error 7" appeared on the digital screen. These errors were related to the motor; specifically that the motor was over heating. Following the instructions located in the manual, we stopped using the machine and again called Haier for servicing. On 4/16/12, another service technician arrived to look at our machine. After discovering that the heating coils of the motor had melted together, he determined that he would need to order and replace both the main control and the main motor.

Stay away from HAIER and this unit. We bought it brand new, and on it's first use it didn't dry clothes at all. After 10 hours, it still wouldn't even dry one bath towel. We called Haier, who sent a service guy over. He discovered that the washer was not working properly either. He told us that everybody who buys the combo unit complains about the dryer. So now we have this new machine that does not work at all. Haier will not refund our money until they determine that they can't fix it. They came to fix the combo 2 times already. Haier will not admit that this combo is unfixable!!! We have been dealing with them for 3 months, and they still tell us that they (and we) have to wait for backordered parts. My advice STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMBO AND THE HAIER BRAND. Our attorney is now involved. What a nightmare this has been from the very start.

This washer/dryer has changed my life. OK, that might be a little overly dramatic, but now i just walk into the bathroom, throw my clothes in and have them come out super clean and (usually, mostly) dry, instead of lugging loads up and down several flights of stairs to find that someone else was already using the sketchy machines that stained and burned my clothes and ate my quarters.

The front loading washer gets clothes much cleaner than standard top loading agitator machines, like other HE machines, the wash cycles takes longer than standard top loaders.

The condensation dryer works surprisingly well, the '2 hour autodry' usually finishes in less than 2 hours and if the load is as small as they reccommend everything is dry. however, i tend to fill the machine with what it can hold to wash (for two adults and a 10 month old) and even then almost everything is dry, i just usually throw towels or jeans or anything else that's still wet back in for another cycle (15-30 mins usually) and they are dry too. To cut down on wrinkles I only use the 60 minute cycle and take the clothes out hot and steamy and line dry them for another 30min - hour or so. But the machine also has a touch up cycle so if something comes out really wrinkled you can just throw it back in for a few minutes by itself.

For me, being able to do small loads is a luxury i didn't have when i had to pay for every load in coin-op machines, and with a small child it is a necessity if you have any hope of removing stains before they set in. I have had to change my laundry habits, i do a load or two almost every day, or every other day, instead of waiting for everything i own to pile up for 3-4 weeks! and it's easy to do, because it's just right there in the bathroom and i don't need any quarters!

Verified Purchase
The machine's motor died after just a few weeks of operation. Of course it's under warranty, but getting it serviced has been aggravating and, thus far, unsuccessful.

Today, 30 days after the malfunction, Haier's chosen repair service returned to my house and attempted to fix the machine with the wrong parts. But, hey, I'm sure they'll get it right next time.

It reflects poorly on the product and on the company that stands behind it that my brand new washer/dryer has now been broken for half the time I've owned it.

And counting.

I've had this unit for a week. I hate it. It's so inconvenient. It does not dry the clothing I put in it, no matter how small the load is. It took six hours to dry ONE towel. Definitely not worth the money.
