5.0 out of 5 stars Cooks beautifully. I love this oven!
I got this unit a few weeks ago and I've been quite impressed with it, especially in light of its very reasonable price. I've used it for baking and I've used the rotisserie as well. It browns very evenly and I'm very pleased with this oven thus far.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good while they last but it has a short life span
We purchased our first Haier 1700 at Brandsmart for $137.00 three years ago along with an extended warranty. After one year we turned it in for a replacement because the temp. was unstable. The second one lasted two years before the door broke, and the convection fan stopped. I love the price and the size. It accomodates a 1/2 size baking pan. It's great for about a year...

I bought a Haier convection oven and it broke after only a few months. I called their customer service department and they said they would send me a new one. I have waited 2 months and made 17 phone calls and still nothing. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. Their products are cheap chinese junk and they DO NOT stand behind their products. Don't believe me? Look around on the web and you will see plenty of other people complaining about their cheap products and ZERO customer support.

2.0 out of 5 stars Need a drip pan to set under entire oven, August 14, 2004
This review is from: Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven (Kitchen)
I bought this oven recently. It is cheaply made but most of the functions do a fair job. All except the rotisserie; when used, grease runs from the unit onto the countertop even though the unit is level and the drip tray is not full. I was very dissapointed. I contacted them via email today, they say they will get with me in 24 hrs. We'll see.

1.0 out of 5 stars not good for the money, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven (Kitchen)
Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven would be great if the company did a better job puting it together. The first one worked for 1.5 weeks then the power went out on it. Sent for a new one and it came with the door not put together right. Part of the hinge was missing. Not happy with this at all. Will not deal with this company again. I bought this as a gift for my mother and she is the one who has had to deal with this mess. Elizbeth, NV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooks beautifully. I love this oven!, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven (Kitchen)
I got this unit a few weeks ago and I've been quite impressed with it, especially in light of its very reasonable price. I've used it for baking and I've used the rotisserie as well. It browns very evenly and I'm very pleased with this oven thus far.

I really like the large glass door as it makes it very easy to check on the food as it cooks. I love the rotisserie as well. I used the rotisserie to cook a 4 lb chicken. The drip pan caught all of the grease with no problem at all and the drip pan was not even close to its capacity. The frozen pizza I cooked in it is the best pizza I've ever cooked at home. The crust was evenly browned with no burning at all. I also like that no preheating of the oven is needed before cooking as the oven heats very quickly.

The unit has a large capacity, but actually takes up slightly less space in my kitchen than my full sized microwave. This unit would be perfect for someone in a dorm room or for someone without space for a regular full-size oven, but it also makes a nice addition to a full sized kitchen. In fact, since I've gotten this unit I haven't found a reason to use my full size oven at all. I'm sure I'll use my regular oven again at some point, but so far I haven't found anything I can't cook in this oven and it actually cooks food more evenly than my full-size conventional oven does.

I'm so glad I purchased this oven. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner. This oven is a great value for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective parts ruin a great design, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven (Kitchen)
The oven works perfectly when new. Actual temperature is exactly as shown on the temperature dial. As the oven is used, the thermostat distorts. Temperature is lower and lower and lower, actually changing a bit during extended use. The oven, used twice a week for one hour each time, now heats to 300 degrees when set to 350 degrees - and temperature drops if the oven is used longer. This seems entirely due to use of a cheap thermostat unit that gradually distorts during use and that never returns to original shape. Thus the unit will require a good oven thermometer to compensate and monitoring at all times - an intolerable situation. do NOT buy this oven. While the physical design is superb, the thermostat's gradual cumulative inaccuracy makes this unit undependable for most purposes.

After readng the prevois reviews on this convection oven I was a sceptic. But I did not want to spent $300 for a comeercial grade countertop convection oven. For those prices you can almost get a whole stove if needed. There is some truth to the previous reviews when comes to the accurancy of the temperture. At least 25-35 degree off. However, keep in mind this is an xtra large convection oven being powered by standard 120 volts. If this oven ran on the 220 volts that the standard kitchen oven runs on then there would be better performance. Plug it directly into wall outlet, do not use an extension cord if possible. Extension cords will effect the performance. The convection feature works well. Overall for the reasons stated above I am ok with my purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works OK, December 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Haier RTC1700 Extra Large Capacity Convection Oven (Kitchen)
Purchased the Haier RTC1700 about 5 months ago, have had plenty of time to evaluate the oven, it works well and the price was low.
The build quality is poor, the rotisserie would occasionally stop turning which was corrected by bending the cheaply made mounting bracket on the left side.

The roasting rod and grate showed signs of rust after one washing, to remedy this I spray a light coating of vegetable oil on the pieces before storing them.
Cleaning is also a hassle; grease drips in-between the door and bottom of the oven and is very difficult to get to. The inside is painted with a rough texture high temperature paint, almost impossible to clean.

Overall I'm disappointed with the product, expecting more from a well known manufacturer like Haier. The oven is manufactured in China and represents the typical junk quality of Chinese products.

Would not recommend this product, suggest finding a better quality unit. Haier should drop this product from their lineup and replace it with a quality product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good oven for the price, February 4, 2008

I purchased this oven about 18 months ago. At the time, there were several negative reviews. To be safe, I purchased the extended warranty plan. Didn't need it. The oven has performed well. I was looking for an oven that would replace my toaster oven and also be able to cook some main or side dishes when I was serving a big meal. I can cook a couple of pieces of garlic bread or and entire meal. The oven is large, so make sure you have the counter space. It cooks faster than a conventional oven. No need to preheat except for biscuits and cookies; the bottoms get too brown if you don't preheat. It's also great for reheating leftovers. Makes things brown and crispy like a gas oven. The oven blows hot air into the kitchen so it's great in Winter. In Summer, I move it out to the garage and cook on top of the dryer (I have a hot mat to protect the dryer). If you're just cooking for 10 or 15 minutes it's fine in Summer, the heat dissipates quickly after turning off. I should mention that I haven't used the rotisserie so I don't know how well that works. If you are looking for a second oven to help with large meals or an oven to quickly heat leftovers so they are not soggy like microwave cooking, this is the oven for you. Would also be good for a dorm room or small apartment, but remember, it can get a small room very warm in 20 -30 minutes.
