1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this item. It's a complete piece of..., October 6, 2004

Amazon really needs to allow customers to use ZERO stars! [:-(]

This Haier water dispenser cost $100. Its construction and materials are extremely cheap. It's a wonder the thing made it to me in one piece. When one dispenses water from either nozzle, they actually bend, no matter how gently you treat them. This issue alone made this Haier unit unacceptable.

For anyone w/kids, especially teenagers, definitely do not buy this unit. I don't believe I'm exaggerating when I write "you'd be lucky if this unit lasted a week."

The *only* positive part of the transaction was Amazon's great service/system. Returning the item was a snap. They even offer an option where they'll issue a UPS call tag. So, for an extra $5.00, I didn't have to schelp this thing to a shipping place, they came to me... ;-)

Yesterday I did buy a water cooler/dispenser that is much, much more well constructed and sturdy. The difference between the two units is like night & day. Plus, the new unit, Whirlpool, is Energy Star compliant.

Whirlpool "Hot & Cold Water Cooler" ENERGY STAR®, Model: WHRA-425BS, Price: $127.00

Unlike the Haier, I'd highly recommend this unit to anyone. I don't know if Amazon sells it but, if they don't, they definitely should sell it.

Best regards,

Doug Olsen

p.s. Please note this review is the very first I've written about any online purchase. Trust me, I've bought more than my fair share over the past few years. Please consider this when you evalute both this unit and my review. I think visitors need to know I don't complain about every one of my online purchases because I want to read my review online. When I make the time to come back to an item to alert others that it's a piece of crap, there's a very real reason motivating that effort.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD TASTE IN MOUTH, October 13, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Haier WDQS015 Water Dispenser with Storage Compartment (Tools & Hardware)
My Avanti cooler that I had for two years, spring a leak. I searched for another at a similar price and found the Haier WDQS015. I made a big mistake ordering this product. The cooler arrived and I read and followed the instructions to the letter. Within a few hours, the unit begain eminating a strange odor from behind it. I tried the water that I had dispensed from the new machine, and was shocked to find out it tasted like burnt plastic. I cycled the machine using the new bottle water (both hot and cold) and then replaced it with tap water. The next day, it still was terrible to drink and had the same taste. I called the manufacturer and they didn't know what to do and offered no advice, except to try cycling vinegar through it. They said this problem has never come up before. They referred me to two vendors that sell the machines locally that might help, but they were not help at all. I am going to try to run vinegar trhough it in the hopes of getting rid of the bad taste. If this does not work, I just spent a 100 bucks down the drain, as to find a box and ship it back for a refund just isn't worth the hassle. The last reviewer is correct; it's cheaply made and I do not recommend this product to anyone. Better to spend a few extra $$s and get something of quality. This unit literally "stinks".

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, November 19, 2004

We had this unit for all of three months before it sprung a leak in the back and soaked the carpet in our apartment. When we called customer service they told us that we had to have the original receipt from when we bought it in order to get any kind of customer service. I'm sorry, is that standard?? I have never had anyone ask me for the original receipt. I will definitely never buy one of these again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cold water nowhere to be tasted!, March 24, 2005
This review is from: Haier WDQS015 Water Dispenser with Storage Compartment (Tools & Hardware)
I did not heed the warnings and purchased this water cooler in December 2004.
When I first used it the water tasted like rubber or plastic. YUCK!. But finally after running three or four 5-galloon water bottles through the machine the taste dissipated. Once the funny taste was gone I was happy with my purchase.

Now in March, my water cooler no longer cools the water. The hot water tap works amazing, it is almost boiling hot, but the cold water is room temperature. It just stopped working one day.
I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to attempt to call Haier and see if I have any luck getting a replacement.

1/14/06-Gave up on getting a replacement (too much of a hassle). Bought myself a WHIRLPOOL cooler and it has been running beautifully since the moment I set it up. Much better construction too! Almost a year of water cooler performance perfection.

1.0 out of 5 stars My Dispenser at home, May 21, 2005

I own one of Haier dispensers and I must say that the cooler is a horrible one. It doesn't cool at all the five gallon water. The water always stays at room temperature and Haier's customer service is horrible, it takes them forever to answer the phone and they don't have anything to say regarding the matter.
