In Haiku Applecart, Ms. August has crafted a quirky, delightful volume where each haiku unfolds like a flower. From the simple joys of a neighborhood cat sleeping in the sunshine to more serious issues of love and loss, you'll find yourself charmed, intrigued, and thoroughly entertained. I read it in one delicious sitting and continue to pick it up to read a selection at random. It'll will make you look at the world around you with fresh eyes, hoping to see all the quiet miracles around you. Infused with gentle magic, it's a warm and wonderful gift to the world. Thank you, Ms. August, for sharing your grace with us all.

I'd never really thought much of haiku before reading this book. The 5-7-5 poems seemed to be shallow disposable novelty. But I've changed my mind. A single haiku is indeed pretty simple but a collection of them, in the hands of a beautiful mind like August, has a pleasurable cumulative effect.

Haiku Applecart is one clever gem of observation after another. It takes joy in all the mundane and profound, the whimsical and philosophical around us. And in addition, it's also, page for page, relentlessly cheerful. This book made me very happy.

Ms. August is truly one of the most gifted artists I've encountered. Haiku may be considered somewhat simple poetry, but Ms. August takes it to a whole new level. Three lines of text don't often bring one to tears, but this author somehow managed to bring forth a multitude of emotion through her words- hysterical laughter all the way to tears of sadness. One of my favorites which encapsulates the tremendous power of her words: "stained glass confetti; dances between the church pews; pulling down the sun". I could almost taste the warmth of the sunlight, the glistening sunlight streaming in through the windows, prism-like reflections throughout the church, I could even see the fleckers of dust floating in the air. Ms. August is one to watch- she's just skimmed the surface of what talent lies beneath- STAY TUNED!
