Book Description

December 1, 2008
Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar. The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must paint a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 SYLLABLES over just three (3) lines of poetry!

1.0 out of 5 stars I want my money back. Great Haikus, January 12, 2011
This review is from: Haiku Smiles (Kindle Edition)
The poetry is outstanding and deserves to be published. But the formatting from the table of contents to the last page is the worst I have experienced. Is this entire book an error? Seriously. This has got to be an error. EVERY paragraph has a glaringly distracting format error and undecipherable computer code! Reformat it completely and THEN offer it as a Kindle publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GALAXY IN THE SPACE OF 17 SYLLABLES, October 15, 2010
This review is from: Haiku Smiles (Paperback)
There are few poets of haiku writing today who can surpass Nancy Lee Shrader's expertise. Her Haiku Smiles are each a touch of wisdom readers can take away with them. This is a book of haiku I highly recommend. The great haikuist Basho would be proud!
