4.0 out of 5 stars Insights into how the candidates were presented, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Hail to the Chief; (Loose Leaf)
Commemorative memorabilia for presidential elections is not a new phenomenon, as can be seen in this historical listing of items created for presidential campaigns. Bowls, buttons, banners, medallions, and even a metal frog are displayed in this book. Captions are used to provide the background for the presidential campaign, so the text that is displayed on the campaign material can be understood. It is fascinating to see the wide variety of campaign items and until I read this book, I did not know that the first woman to run for president did so in 1872. The last campaign for which material is displayed is the 1968 race between Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey and George Wallace.
This book is a compact history lesson on the circumstances of how presidents have been elected. It was very interesting to read the text and the campaign paraphernalia provides additional insights into how the candidates were presented to the voters.
