I got this yesterday and ended up staying up late into the night to finish. It was a well-weaved story with great characters and intrigue. It's got some clean romance but it's more weighted towards mystery than romance. I really enjoyed it and will be looking for other books by this author. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was because there was a handful of typo errors. It didn't really bother me and frankly, if you've ever tried to edit a book, you know how difficult it is to not have them. :)

I'm giving Hailey's Comments 4 stars instead of 5 due to some editing issues that pulled me out of the story a bit. There were a few more than should be allowed, but nothing that another pass with editing couldn't fix. Mostly things like, I my... You do get a glimpse into the writer's directional thought though with these errors. One thing I will say about the writing is Mrs. Tate did a terrific job of weaving a story without use of vulgar/foul language. It wasn't until after I finished the story and was thinking about the 'bad guys' that I skimmed back over some of the scenes and realized she had so well written the characters that she didn't need to take the shortcut of using foul language to develop them.

The story is enchanting. I enjoyed the premise of it being based upon coincidences...and there are lots of them. They are cleverly woven together in a workable fashion that made me, say 'No Way!' while at the same time thinking, 'Yeah, maybe so.'. There were plenty of thrills and twists to keep me guessing. Emma is a young woman who longs for love and is attracted to most of the single men she meets. However, she is friendly, but withdrawn, like the artist she is. Her Gram, on the other hand, seems to want to plant herself in the middle of Emma's love life, and life in general. Gram adds a sense of balance to the story that made it all the more satisfying when I read the last page and sighed. Also, as I usually review the cover too, this one is FABULOUS.

I picked up HAILEY'S COMMENTS as an e-book because I loved Kristy's other book STEALING MERCY. She did a great job with this one, too. It's a clean read, which I love. Though it is definitely a Romance, it doesn't read like your typical "girl meets boy and falls in love" story. I find it refreshing that it keeps that aspect from compelely taking over, alowing Emma a chance to grow and change. One thing I love about Kristy is her ability to write deep characters. Yes, this is about a girl and a boy, but the characters are real and well developed and the setting on a insulated island is like a character in itself. To add to the charm, there are great secondary characters and you've got to love Emma's huge ugly dog. I also enjoyed the addition of a mystery and a bit of suspense. Everything comes together in a great finish that was totally satisfying. This is one I'll read again.

This is the perfect book to take on a flight, or to curl up with when you're ill (like I did). It's a light mystery that draws you in, and the hours zoom by. The characters are fun (the sensible heroine, the quirky best friend, the handsome men popping up all over), the mystery itself is well-woven even if the coincidences are bit fantastical, and the setting is great (an island that limits one's access to communication, and allows for strange rules of crime and punishment). The story flows well, and intrigue builds.

My only complaint (and maybe it was the stomach flu talking) is that the heroine's opening conflict with writing Hailey's Comments and with painting--and in particular her conflicts with her grandmother--didn't feel fully resolved. Also in the latter half, the typos grow more frequent, but that's easily remedied.

I enjoyed the book as a light, easy read. I wanted a better description of what Emma looked like. Sometimes, I felt lost in the location/setting, but the storyline kept me interested. Numerous typo's!!! Need a better proof reader!!

The story was somewhat hard to follow and there were errors in the printing. Overall, I just thought it was okay. Seems like a bit more editing would have helped.
