Bit thin and "blank" - disappointing,
By Sonja Steyn (Randburg, Gauteng South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hailing Aradia : A Wiccan Book of Shadows (Paperback)
I bought this book and reading the first chapter, I thought that "This book is okay - if small." I liked the way Ms Anderson wrote about her personal experience and most of the important topics Witches, Wiccans and other practitioners should know about, are included in the table of contents. A word of caution, though: There are 10 Chapters, but the information on spells for example (11 pages and 3 lines on the 12th page) are pitiful and the rest of the book is hardly as substantial as the other reviews will let you to believe! It has over 40 blank pages in the book (122 pages total), titled "Notes", "My Spells" and "My Rituals". Really, if one wants to make notes, write spells and rituals, one does it in a notebook or grammer (grimoire). There's no need to purchase a book (with limited space) for over $8! I did not find it "cute". Would much rather have seen more substance to the topics. If you are looking for a Wicca 101 primer or a little additional extra reading on Wicca 101, this is the book for you. I bought the following books, and found them to be more useful: Scott Cunningham (everything!), Al G Manning (Helping yourself with White Witchcraft), The Farrars (Spells and how they work) and even Silver Ravenwolf (To ride a silver broomstick, To stir a magick cauldron). Hope this helps someone else... Blessed Be!

Why not read a compenent author?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hailing Aradia : A Wiccan Book of Shadows (Paperback)
Ms. Anderson starts by stating a popular lie: That Wicca is an ancient religion. She seems to confuse folk-lore and history in an alarmning way.Why not start with one of the "classic" "Intro-to-Wicca" texts, such as Cunningham, the Farrars, etc? They don't ask you to shell out money to buy a book that contains mostly blank pages! I'm alarmed at the people aparently reading this book of mis-information and thinking, "This is Wicca". I would far prefer that newcomers to the faith started with an author who has actually done some research and knows what they're talking about.

Brilliant! A must-read book!,

"Wicca is an ancient religion, dating back to prehistoric times. It is a polytheistic religion meaning that there are many gods. Indeed, the religion is based upon the existence of both a God and a Goddess." And so opens one of the clearest and most succinct books about Wicca this reviewer has seen.Author, teacher, seeker and mystic Dottye Gilmore Anderson has written not only an easy-to-read, fact-filled book about this ancient religion, but a way of life that offers balance and appreciation of nature...as well as equality between masculine and feminine. One of the many reasons Hailing Aradia is a superior work is that the reader becomes involved not only learning, but thinking about the content, applying the concepts to him/herself and writing assignments right in the book which tend to clarify and then resonate. Hailing Aradia explains, cogently and compassionately, where to visualize the rituals and what the ritual's purpose should be. Further, Ms. Anderson has included such additional and valuable chapters like healing with herbs, tools, the Circle of Protection, incenses, ointments, magick and spells...and a brilliant description of the Gods and Goddesses from Jupiter to Hectate.

An Interactive Book, Reasonably priced,
By James_B (Brigantine, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hailing Aradia : A Wiccan Book of Shadows (Paperback)
This book contained much information that was very helpful to me, a new person on the path. The author explains that this is designed as an interactive book. This book was written in response to a request by a customer at the Metaphysical store that the author manages. Ms. Anderson explains magickal principles in a concise, informational, entertaining way. As for the price, I have seen smaller books for much higher prices. The author has not tried to mis-lead or rip-off her audience in any way.All in all, I think that the book was a good value, and would encourage others to buy it.

A very interesting read,
By Trevize (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hailing Aradia : A Wiccan Book of Shadows (Paperback)
Ms. Anderson provides unique insights on the world of Wiccan magick. When I first purchased this book, I knew very little about the world of Wicca, but after reading this book I feel that I now have a very firm grounding in the beliefs and lore of the Wiccan arts. She provides a very useful resource for those new to the craft as well of those looking for a refreshing perspective. I heartily recommend this book to anyone looking to take that next step into the world of Wicca.
