This album is intensely excellent and is highly recommended to all. I must point out that the beloved band IAM is *not* Swiss but the pride and joy of Marseille, and yes their participation on this album "La 25ieme Image" is haunting... Sens Unik, is the Swiss band in the mix with their title "Le Vent Tourne."

The ultimate buy ! If you adore French Music ;wether you like "Doc Gynaco" or "Daftpunk" you've got to appreciate this not-to-miss collection of 'phat'/chilling' music inspired by the astonishing movie La Haine. Most memorable moments of this CD: The increadible Swiss group "Iam" and the virtuosity of "MC Sollar" .But foremost the awesome song:(C'est) Le 25e Imagé. A supersonic trip : by far the best ever soundtrack. Even better than the proclamed Soundtracks:The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, (The Original Soundtrack) La Haine or Trainspotting.

Why French Hip-Hop is to be taken seriously,

The soundtrack of the film La Haine is a document on where French Hip Hop is today. The film is on the tension in the concrete jungle in Paris. The tension being mostly between the Police and the people living in the Suburbs. The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes (the police in the cinema refused to watch and were standing with their backs turned to the screen). The CD really supplements the movie. MC Solaar, I AM and others indicate that French hiphop is a serious force It is a way in which rappers from the many cultures that make up the population in cities such as Paris and Marseille found a way to express themselves. It is of a much higher quality than L.A. style gangsta rap. The soundtrack is an excellent introduction in to this.
The only downside is that the CD does not contain the Burning and Lootin' that blasted from the cinema speakers at the start of the movie.

this is a must-hear! A great moment of rap music and of freedom of speech in the mid-90's. Ministere Amer's "Sacrifice de poulets" is a very good track and a milestone in the political history of French rap. French State and police sued them for that track. MC Solaar's tune was removed from last copies of the CD. I do not know why but it is a pity. "Comme dans un film" is one of his best songs, and maybe his most politically engaged - the extreme-right party Front National being hit by the MC's brilliant verbal and artistic bullets.

French rap at its best!,

This soundtrack features some of the best artists in the French Rap scene. It reflects a dark image of the "banlieu de paris" -the suburbs of Paris and every track is a masterpiece with its own style, being part of a whole. AWESOME! Even for american Hip-Hopers and Rappers: this is different; check it out!!!
