5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Hair Coloring/Care Book
For years I colored my hair with boxed products such as Loreal, but now I am using professional products thanks to the helpful advice from Baptista's book. The book makes understanding color levels, tones, and developers very easy. After reading her book, I feel confident enough now to experiment with my own hair color, and I am saving a lot of money by doing it myself...

2.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
The description of how hair color works and the color schemes was informative but I had hoped for more how-to information. I think you can do as well googling hair blogs and reading descriptions there as buying this book.

This book helped to "demystify" the whole haircoloring process. Now I know how to choose the right color level/tone and developer volume to get the results I want. I feel more confident doing my own color now that I have this handy book. Next time I color my hair I am going to be more adventurous!

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better, October 8, 2010

I was expecting much more information from the book than was given. It was more of a pamphlet than a book. I thought I would learn something new about highlighting; however, informing the reader that she uses a crochet hook and cap isn't telling them anything about the dyes or chemicals used. I had hoped to find out which highlight tones the writer would recommend for red hair. I thought the book was overpriced for what it offered. Save your money and check out a book on coloring your hair from the library, or do what someone else suggested, go online and research hair color tips. You'll get more detailed information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect info for the DIY home stylist, December 5, 2011

Got this book this afternoon and it is worth the money! It is an easy to understand, fast read and covers basics the average "DIY" consumer should know. I have been coloring my hair for 30 years and prefer to "DIY" because finding time to get to the salon and then walking out with a color I like can be a frustrating ordeal.
The book helped me figure out some issues I have had in the past, essentially "lack of knowledge" produced operator error on my part. The information in this guide was a boon for me! Kudos and thanks....to Ms Baptista !

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Hair to Dye For: A Hair Colorist's Secrets Revealed (Paperback)
The information in this book was spotty, and very brief. No illustrations to support her explanations, but the procedures weren't described clearly enough to follow. The book was extremely short (I read the whole thing in about 30 minutes) and it was full of typos, very amateurish production values. As a book, its greatest value seems to be as a great way for the author to make a little money without having to do very much. There was enough information that I was able to screw up my courage and go to the beauty supply and pick a dye by looking at hair swatches, but overall, this inexpensive book was definitely an example of getting what you pay for.
