2.0 out of 5 stars Some useful information......book of poor quality
I actually just purchased the 5th edition of the same book in September 2008. Didn't receive the book until mid December 2008. Book looks as though someone photo copied it and took it to Kinko's to have a plastic binder added to it....
Chapters skip around. In black & white on copy paper. Misspellings. And definitely isn't worth the $60 I paid for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book to help you get focused, October 8, 2001
By A Customer
The Career Guide is an excellent book for people just starting out or those wanting to fill in the blanks of their already established careers. The information is great for those wanting to pursue a print or film/tv career. Blanks that were filled in for me after I read it were things like the sizing and style of a portfolio, the importance of promo cards and approaching agencies. These are things you would otherwise probably find out through trial and error.

Speaking of errors, the book is full of them - both spelling and punctuation errors. Being a third edition I was disappointed in the lack of proof reading done. It was distracting to read ("a lot" spelled "alot") and makes an otherwise perfect book very hard to read!

Overall, despite the errors, I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding reference for freelance Makeup Artists, August 24, 1998
I'm an aspiring makeup artist. I live in Phoenix Arizona and couldn't find anything on the subject of freelance styling as I want to do makeup for music videos and fashion shows. When I found this book it changed the direction of my work, helped me set goals and taught me how to find the right photographers to test with. It's invaluable and I recommend it to anyone who says they want to get in the business. Also, it has great resources and now they have a website at: setthepacepubgroup.com

I am completely disappointed by this book and wouldn't purchase another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Information - Poor Publishing, January 11, 2002
By A Customer
Although I found the content very informative I was too distracted by the number of spelling and punctuation errors to take the author's advice too seriously. Although I'm quite confident that Ms. Wright knows of which she speaks in this field, it marred her credibility somewhat in my eyes that she would allow a book of this poor quality to be published under her name. And as a Canadian might I add that it's spelled "Vancouver" not "Van Couver". Hire a professional proofreader before you release another edition!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makeup artist must have, January 17, 2010

This is a favorite book among many of my professional hair and makeup artists friends and me. I wish I had this book when I first started in the industry because if you follow it you will achieve your goals it really tells you things that you have to learn on your own because most artists don't like to share how they got started. This is a must have if you are serious about working for films, print and commercials.
