About the Author

Amy Miller lives in a small rural town in Carroll County, Maryland. She lives in a beautiful home that her husband, Marty, built. They have three children, Chris, Wyatt, and Kendall. Amy spends her days doing hair, and running her kids to dance classes, gymnastics, and baseball games. She spends her nights pounding away on the keyboard of her computer, sending out funny e-mails, and painting the bathroom as her family sleeps. She has a reputation for showing up for baseball games dressed as Vanna White so she can be the one picked to turn the inning scoreboard numbers for the game. She always dresses up as characters for her book club meetings. Yes, she is a bit of an attention seeker. Amy's children have learned not to utter the phrase, "Mom, you are so embarrassing," as it comes with a price. She enjoys comedy, and has been a lifelong fan of Saturday Night Live, even when it goes through transitional phases. She continues to stand behind the chair cutting hair, teaching, and entertaining. This is her first book and she has thoroughly enjoyed putting these stories together for you. "There is nothing more rewarding than making people laugh, I hope I have accomplished just that!" ~Amy Miller

This book is hysterical! I could not put it down except to run to the bathroom to keep from pee'ing my pants because it is so funny! Amy Miller had me from the first chapter. I can't wait to see what she come up with next! Chelsea Handler - watch out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew salons were such hotbeds of intrigue?, July 25, 2009

This review is from: Hair*apy: Highlights and Lowlights (Paperback)
Hair stylists, like bartenders hear it all. Clearly people tell their stylists EVERYTHING. And here Amy Miller is revealing much - in a kind, anonymous, and hilarious way. A really good stylist is one part artist, one part chemist, and about three parts clinical psychologist. Amy Miller is all of those and can now add talented author to the mix. If you have ever stepped foot in a salon, you won't be able to put this book down. Her prescient observations and self-effacing wit keep you turning page after page until the timer has gone off on the oven and the clothes have wrinkled in the dryer. I got little else done the day I picked up this book and it was well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hair tales from the heart, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Hair*apy: Highlights and Lowlights (Paperback)
This book is light, funny and honest. Amy Miller has a knack for retelling her adventures of hair styling, and also delving into the more serious side of the hair industry. I worked in a hair salon for six years in the 1980's, and caught myself laughing out loud (and wincing) more than once thanks to Amy's reminiscing. A quick, enjoyable read.
