Great book for a beginner,
By A Customer
This review is from: Haircutting Basics: An Easy, Step-By-Step Guide to Cutting Hair the Professional Way (Paperback)
This book was very easy to read and understand. Shortly after reading the book, I knew all I needed to start cutting my family and friends' hair. The only drawback was that the book didn't include how to cut hair that is "folically challenged" (i.e., not much on top)which I could have used a few pointers on for a family member. Regardless, I was able to modify the instructions in the book myself and give him a great haircut. I would also recommend getting the companion video that shows all of the styles from the book being done by hair professionals.

Good info, Poor Illustrations,

The info is good. Im a cosmetology student, so I can actually understand the content. The pictures are not very good. I would like to see color pictures, w/maybe a Manikin demonstration on haircuts, something other than the simple drawings provided.

This is a must reading for anyone who is starting to learn how to cut hair. It explains very well the basic things, simple, that you need to know to cut hair. This book does not explain advanced techniques or haircuts, but to do this you need first to learn the basics, and this book does a prety good job at that. The drawings are good and helpful to understand the material explained. I would recomend to buy the accompanying VHS to understand better. This VHS is not available through amazon, at least at this time, but it can be ordered by requesting a brochure at 305-362-6998 of the publishing company.

A Great Place to Start,

This review is from: Haircutting Basics: An Easy, Step-By-Step Guide to Cutting Hair the Professional Way (Paperback)
I feel like this book gave me more professional training than a lot of the other books that I have read (This book has been used in a lot of cosmetology schools) I had already watched the video about 4 times before I bought the book. I don't know if the book would be confusing if you hadn't watched the video beforehand. I feel that between the book and the video this was a great place for me to start learning haircutting! The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that I feel it could have given us a lot more information on each page - the book didn't have to be that basic!

Unclear instructions,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Haircutting Basics: An Easy, Step-By-Step Guide to Cutting Hair the Professional Way (Paperback)
This book is unclear in two ways. #1 it dosn't have very good pictures and #2 it has unclear instructions. I have only checked it out at our local library, so I have not deeply looked into it. But It appeared not well orgonized and hard to understand. Altogether, at first appearence it would not be my choice.

Not one of the better,

Not one of the better books out there... I should have sent it back, but I did not, I will donate it to the beauty school when I leave and get a tax credit I guess. disappointing, did not learn anything that was not in the standard already, you are better off observing than trying to understand this mess.

Of course the techniques still work, but the styles are definitely out-dated. It was written in the eighties.
