Editorial Reviews

Hunx (aka Seth Bogart) of Hunx & His Punx/Gravy Train fame is back with a solo album to maximize and flex his power as a stand alone singer/songwriter and pop song virtuoso. Hairdresser Blues is a collection of songs raging from indie pop jingle jangle to bouncing bubble glam and then some. Not only were all of the songs penned by Hunx himself, but the entire album with the exception of the drums, were played by the outrageous frontman. Recorded and produced by Ivan Julian (that famous dude from the Voidoids that produced the Hunx & His Punx lp from 2011 Too Young To Be In Love). RIYL:music

I discovered Hunx and His Punx through a friend who wanted me to watch their hilarious videos on youtube and instantly I fell in love with this Homopunk brilliant songwriting group. The songs are catchy, funny, endearing, and not as graphic as the Pansy Division. This is the solo record of the lead singer, simply known as "Hunx". At first listen I was a little let down that is wasn't as poppy and funny as releases under "Hunx and His Punx" but after a repeat listen I found myself singing along and appreciating the much more well written songs and similarities between ex tour mate, Jay Reatard. There are still silly songs including "Private Room" which is catchy as hell and almost sounds like Prince singing a gay anthem. The rest of the album is a more mature album than fans would expect. Although the singing is ok at best, he has one of those voices that is just as effective and addictive than if he were an accomplished crooner. Recommended listen for fans of the full band, queercore, or even Ramonescore.

These songs are so catchy! Hunx is the best! Hairdresser Blues and Set Them Free are my two favorite songs.
