Hairspray can only be described as a big HUGE bubble of joy that pops off of the stage and into your lap. It is so fun, bright, colorful, and exciting that I can't help but giggle with delight when I think about it. To answer the previous poster's question, this is the complete libretto; that means it has the book (script) and song lyrics. It also includes cute and colorful pictures of the Original Broadway Cast.

Hairspray is love. If you love Hairspray, you'll love to own and re-enact it every day with your very own script. If you haven't seen Hairspray (you poor thing!) you can read the script and enjoy it just as much as I do! It's super duper funny, hip, and has a lot of heart.

I also highly recommend the OBC recording. Not as good unless you've seen it live with all it's super high-energy goodness, but amazing none-the-less!

The musical stage script of Hairspray is even funnier that the film. It has such a witty , and humorous approach to a really valuable discussion. I am looking forward to producing it when it becomes available for High Schools!

This book was just right for what I wanted. It had exactly what I was looking for. Lyrics and script. Great !!!

This show is so awesome!!! It is super funny, but yet is also deals with difficult issues like racism and and the idea of beauty. You should see the movie, buy the script, get the soundtrack and make a date night of seeing this show done live! If you don't, then you are missing out on a fabulous piece!!!!!

I am auditioning for the role of Edna Turnblat at a local theater this week...This book has helped me tremendously with getting ready for the part....Received this sooner than I expected...I would use this seller again...

After seeing the Broadway Musical of it, i knew i had to buy the script including all of its songs. All of my friends are asking me if they can borrow it and i am happy about that because i want them to share the same happy experience just like I did

First off, I LOVE this play. It's currently my favorite musical. I love this play a lot. The songs are fun and catchy, the characters are lovable (even the evil Ms. Von Tussle), and the setting is really cool. I saw the Broadway tour of this and it blew me away.

However, the script itself is not written to well in this version. The stage directions aren't there very often, and when they are they barely explain anything. It's hard to try and picture this while you're readin it. I certianlly hope that when this play gets put on stage this is not the same format the actors get for there script.

The play has so many funny moments from what is done on stage that you won't find out from just reading this. It's a shame, it really is. Worse, a part of the climax is the characters dancing to part one of the last song played. What does the stage direction say? It says, qoute on qoute "dance their a**es off". That's it. Nothing really specific, it just hopes we can imagine it. That's just not a good stage direction.

On a positive note, in the break between act one and two the book gives us a few pictures from the original broadway production. Also, as it has the songs in it you can finally figure out the lyrics, and if you're like me some of them stumped you for a while. But it's not enough to completely save the book, it really isn't. If you want the Hairspray experience, there is a 2007(?) movie version of the musical, not to mention the non-musical movie the play was based on, but obviously you can also see the play but that will be harder. I don't know if they're still touring, but once that's done it will only happen in local theaters, and while it would at least be almost as good as the original or the tour (maybe even more in some cases I'm sure) it will be a little harder to find when they preform it is worth it.

So in short, the play is amazing, but this version of the script doesn't do it any justice. It's bland on stage directions, doesn't give us the sheet music the songs were in (I don't even know how to read sheet music and I was upset it wasn't in here, it just has the words), and it actually feels shameful to a play that won several tonny awards.

I am wondering if this is the COMPLETE script of the show (ie the dialogue and the songs) What about the songs? Is it just the lyrics, or is it the piano music? I can't seem to find an answer anyway, can anyone help me?

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I have read it so many times, and I am going to see the show soon. This is my favorite script I own. So, I am telling you, DON'T MISS THIS BOOK!!!

"Hairspray" is the musical based on the writer's childhood in the sixties when he lived in Baltimore, Maryland.

After leafing through the pages, even trying to portray one of the characters, this is a great start to my new Broadway book collection! I suggest you start one of your own!
