At first glance, I would have given this book five stars. On almost every page, there are large full page color photos - unlike most of the books I've seen. There are lots of hairstyles included, unlike some books. I took away two stars because 1)the figures showing how to create the styles are drawings, not photos, and are hard to decipher and 2)the book is organized by synthetic, human, and natural hair instead of by hairstyle. So the hairstyles types repeat themselves for each hairtype for reasons beyond me. I would have liked to see all the microbraids, braids, twists, locks, nube nube, et cetera styles together instead of the human or the sythetic styles. There are no how-tos for the various styles, but the book states that the pictures are mainly for ideas. Had there been directions, I would have given this book five stars for its beautiful large photos. I still like this book best so far for the up-to-date (2007) styles and nice pictures.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of books that have such a wide variety of photos and instructions of braided/twisted/locked hairstyles. As someone who has consistently been disappointed by the "braid" magazines which display sort of "hair show" styles that are impractical for everyday life, I found this book a breath of fresh air. It shows many different styles along with basic instructions on how to do them, how long it takes and some idea of cost. Just what I needed!

I loved the book! Really enjoyed how it explained the different forms of braids with excellent hair photos. The make up needed work, but other than that great way to show clients different hair styles. If you have a idea of how to do a style but don't really know this book is for you. A braider's go to mannual.

This book has several hair styles that I have used and love to have it on hand when I go into the braiding shops! Everyone always ask where I got the book :-)

This book is good has great pics and even picture instructions in the front on how to do some of the styles pictured and it gives a history of some of the braid styles on where they originate. But it's not $200 or even $85 good. My mom bought this for my sister at a garage sale for a $1 I really liked it and want my own copy but I could not see myself paying over $30 for this book because its just not worth it

of twisting and braiding in different styles (including Kinky Twists, Senagalese Twists, Flat Twists and various styles you can create with each). The drawbacks of this book, however, are that there are not step-by-step color photo tutorials of how each style is recreated.

But, it tells readers what hair to buy (if they choose to add extensions to their hair), what materials are needed, and the care of each style. This is more information than most hair care magazines give out.

TV-One (an African American channel similar to Black Entertainment) helped to produce this book. I believe that it is better than most hair care magazines which give little information about how each style is created.

I picked this book up at my local library, but will probably be purchasing it. I was looking for ideas for natural sytles and this is it. The photos are large with bold colors. Some of the styles are presented several times with natural hair, synthetic hair added and human hair added. Although I don't know the point of the repetition, I do appreciate the additional photos.

If you are tired of trying to explain to the stylist how you want your braids, cornrows, twists or locks done, check out this book. Chances are there is a style here that comes close to what you wish to acheive.

There are some instructions on how to prepare hair and some techniques. These are more of artist rendering and not photographs, but are done with shading to help you see how to start and complete the processes.

This book is an excellent read that offers great advice and illustrations on Natural Haircare for Black Women, Children, and Men that are advocates and enthusiasts of natural haircare and natural hair styles. In my opinion, this book should be added to the personal library, or business library of anyone that is a natural haircare and natural hairstyles enthusiast. It is definitely a worthwhile investment.

This book has amazing styles... there is only one problem, the directions on how to execute them were pretty vague. This is only true for some of the styles not all. So over all I would recommed this book.
