Gr. 4-6. These two volumes in the new Countries and Cultures series offer rudimentary introductions to their subjects. Both books supply a bit of information about major landforms, climate, history, current government, and arts and culture. The visuals in both volumes are average, but there are useful political and physical maps included among the scattered color photos and historical portraits. While most of this information can easily overlap with encyclopedia entries, students will appreciate the straightforward language that doesn't rely on excessive stereotypes, and report writers will like the slim, easy-to-carry size. Recipes, time lines, and suggested further readings round out these basic titles. For larger collections. Gillian Engberg

This review is from: Haiti (Countries & Cultures) (Paperback)
The author tries to squeeze as much information as possible in this book. It's informative and a great gift to children and teenagers with no knowledge of Haiti.
